Our first grade class consisted of: Jim Riemke, Elmo Molter, Mary Sutton, Patricia Estor, Ronald Graham, Nancy Nichols, Virginia Kinder, Donna Boyer, Patricia Fenix, Patricia Troyer, Glen Wilber, Evelyn Fair, Beverly Nathen, Jerry Jacob, Beverly Rude, James Melchi, Dianne Lanning, John Barrows, Nihl Ryan, Myrna Clark, Janet Graham, and Skipper Martin. We had the privilege of having Mrs. Van Wagner as our first grade teacher. Throughout the grades we lost some of our classmates, but at the same tim , we gained many, too. In the second grade we gained Richard Taylor and Eddie Thomas. Mrs. Van Wagner was also our teacher in the second grade. We were all excited about starting the third grade with our new teacher, Mrs. Kraning. Here we gained Kenneth Clark, Betty Hamilton, Betty Snyder, Barbara Cooper, J. D. Thomas, and Willis Beier. The fourth grade began with another new teacher, Mrs. Grabill, who came to us from Flint. This year Gordon Grabill, Josephine Clark, Richard German, Victor Edmonds, and Harold DeLong were added to our class. Suddenly we were in the fifth grade with Mrs. Klingler as our teacher. This year we gained Carl Garman and David Chapman. Our boys also started taking an active interest in sports. Jerry Rumsey and Donald Copas joined our class in the sixth grade. Mrs. Rowley was our teacher but because of illness Mrs. Ammerman was our substitute teacher during her absence. We had a new teacher in the seventh grade, Mr. Ankney from Waterloo. Ronald Petre and Noreta Potts were our new classmates in this grade. The eighth grade was really thrilling because we were upstairs with the high school students. This made us all feel grown up. At last we were in high school. Most of the old familiar faces were back this year. The Hgreen freshmenn were Willis Beier, Nihl Ryan, Virginia Kinder, Barbara Cooper, Mary Sutton, Gordon McLain Nancy Nichols, Noreta Potts, Ronald Graham, Gordon Grabill, Carl Garman, Jerry Jacob, Dianne Lanning, James Melchi, Vernice Sawvel Elmo Molter, Patricia Penix, Patricia Troyer, Richard German, Janet Graham, and Josephine Clark. Of course the sophomores kept us in suspense as to when the freshmen initiation would be. The day finally arrived and it is doubtful that any of us will ever forget the stunts we had to do. Following the initiation the sophomores gave us a very nice party to make up for the tricks they pulled on us. To start our money making campaign we sponsored a skating party. Starting our sophomore year, we lost Noreta Potts and Gordon McLain but gained Ronnie Petre. This year we sponsored another skating party and also held an all-county sophomore skating party. At the Halloween carnival we put on a minstrel, which was really great fun for all. In our jun- ior year we gained Ronnie Mason and Lee Denison, but they left before the year was over. We lost Pat Troyer and Ronnie Petre and also Willis Beier and Dianne Lanning shortly after school started. This was our year to make a large portion of the money we would need for our senior trip. We sponsored skating parties, bake sales, and a scrap drive. We also sold magazines, Christmas cards, Christmas candy and had the concession stand. This year we gave our junior play call- ed nIt's Great to be Crazyn directed by Mrs. Pauline Grabill. It was great fun, and we all hold fond memories of it. It was also our task to give the seniors a banquet. Everyone did his part, and it turned out to be a success. Each year we hold a class tournament here at Orland. 'The boys compete in basketball and the girls in volleyball We held a real celebration when we won both these events because we had gone to the finals in years before but never won. Now we are in our senior year. This is a very busy year for us. We have been sponsoring some bake sales, a skating party, selling pens, publishing the annual, putting out the school paper, getting ready for graduation, and planning for our senior trip which we are all anxiously awaiting. We seventeen seniors have had many hard- ships throughout school but our fond memories far surpass these. Thanks to the co-operation of the parents and the faculty, our twelve years of school have been truly successful. We do not know what the future holds for us but with the guidance we have received here we are sure our lives will fulfill our every wish. 12 x in 'fu ,f ff -.
