Benny, Jim, David, Marvin, Vike, Gordon, Ronnie, Vernice, David. Mr. Tiano, our fine and capable coach, came to Orland this year as a teacher and as a basketball coach. From the first practice with the team he had high hopes of what our Orland power- house could do if they had only the faith and courage to go ahead and win. The first part of the season started very slowly. The team just didnmt seem to be getting the right breaks. They beat Metz and a new surge of spirit was let loose. Five successive games were won by the Fighting Tigers. It seemed as though a whole new era was starting for the Orland Team. Coach Tiano, never stopped the training of the boys just because they had won a few games. In fact that meant they had to work all the harder for their long hard climb to the County Tourney. The Tourney came with high hopes for Mr. Tiano. He knew that playing Fremont wasn't going to be any laughing matter, but he did know that if the team only had the spirit to go in and win, there was no limit to the outcome of the game. The team started off a bit shaky with Fremont but Tiano kept giving them their pep talks about the possibility of an oven throw of Fremont. Although the game had barely started, Orland took off on all fours and literally trampled the poor Fremont team to the floor. As the game progressed the spirit of the team never slackened though, tough breaks came all the hurrayi for they could, victorious. way through the game. And just as Mr. Tiano had said Orland came home glad and In the final game of the tourney Orland met Hamilton and, though playing 8 skillful same, they lost to Hamilton by a small margin of three points. CContinued on next column! OUR CQACH AT David, Joe, John, Carl, and QUT coach Mr. Tiano. Through the season Mr. Tiano always seemed calm no matter what the situation at hand was. The entire Orland student body wishes to thank and congratulate Mr. Tiano for the fine job that he has done in his first year at Orland, and may he have many m0r6 0nJ0Y' able years here.
