This means that youth must prepare himself for this new age. It behooves each of you to take fulladvantage of the educa- tional opportunities offered you so that our nation will continue to lead the world. day the To remain strong we must conserve our resources. We must fully understand and know our neighbors and we must understand and know the basic sciences. By working together and keeping the welfare of our nation in mind at all times, your influence on our country and the world will be for the good kind. of man- Charles K. Price Superintende DC -J 4 ,fl 47 Dear Students: RELFE LEA VITT As you look back over the past iour years, we hope that many pleasant memo- ries come to mind. We also hope you look back on an increased understanding tow ard your future aspirations. These years have now been recorded in the history oi your individual lite: we hope that each oi you profit irom that past history, One often hears the quotation, Practice makes perfect, There is one fallacy in this quotation and thatis - it you practice wrong, you never gain by the experience. ln other words, when you practice, practice rights then you gain by experience. Youryears in elementary school laid the foundation oi your character development, and in high school, the refining, oi this character continued, But it doesn't stop here: Education is a never-ending process, and we hope that each one oi you willkeep the light oi education burning. We had started the year by entering a float in the Glenn County Fair entitled The Early Bird Gets The Worm. It won second prize, In November our class presented a short pre-game skit, Orland Drops Willows, killing off the Honkers by proxy! December 11 - 12 we presented the Senior Play Our Hearts Were Young and Gay, which was followed by a cast party at Wildwood Inn. One of our most enjoyed events of the year was Senior Sneak Day, March 5. We took two buses to Mineral and the Sulphur Works where we enjoyed the day sledding and skiing. Our candidates Mary Ogburn and Harvey Moranda reigned at the Yearbook Dance as Honeycomb royalty, As the climax of Twirp Week, we had our Senior Slave Day, during which the girls were auctioned off to the underclassmen, followed that evening by the Annual Twirp Dance, Another enjoyable event was our Senior Ball which was held May 2 with the theme Rhapsody ln Blue, The big formal dance of the year was enjoyed by all who attended, Our Baccalaureate on June 1, was our last big event of the year before our Gradua- tion Iune 3. After receiving our diplomas, we'descended the steps, ending our memorable years at Orland High School. J. Kuhnen - Vice President: L. Howard - Class S. Schatz - Treasurer, P. Our class party was a combination of a dinner in the cafeteria and record dance in the band room, The theme of the Junior Prom was Toyland, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. For points towards the Principal's Trophy we were assigned to keep one half of the front lawn clean of trash. Our Junior Play was presented April 23-24 during Public School Week to the Stu- dent Body and the public as an appreciation for their support of student activities. Drill Team reorganized this year under the leadership of Bernice Carroll and advisor Mrs. Brunk. In September we made new outfits and practiced many long, hard hours. At the Orland-Willows game, our most elaborate performance, we maneuvered with sixteen large American flags borrowed from the lo- cal merchants, while the band provided marching music. We performed one last routine to end the season during our last football contest, with Paradise. I swf fw QS I 'pid-,: dwg' , 51' M ' 'f Q, W Z ' ,xx I- WALKTQ A . . 'I 9-H451 . 141021 J. Champs, enjoyed a most successful season, going undefeated in all their games, both league and non-league. A glance at the scoring column shows that most of the victories were won by impressive scores. These victories were a result of hard work, real teamwork, and a fine team spirit. From the first day of practice, an exhausting session itself, throughout the season, and until the last game, the Tro- babes hustled, scrimrnaged, and sprinted. It was teamwork all the way during both practice and games. Evidences of team effort were the large number of awards issued: 22 Block O's, 22 gold footballs. What about team spirit? You don't maintain a winning streak nor consistently field four complete teams, nor stay fired -up throughout the entire season without plenty of team spirit. - Hal Brown We're proud of the Trobabes and their coaches, Ray Ballock, Hal Brown, and Dick Hoffman, for a job well done and a great season to their credit. They earned their title: Champions. .,. V F N Showing lots of spirit and fight, the participants in the 7th Annual Boxing Show presented 14 hard- fought, 3-round bouts.
