Class Flower Carnation Class Color; Orchid We, the graduating class of 1962, dedicate this yearbook to a teacher whom we believe has been an inspiration and example in all we hare achieved. She has always been near at hand to guide and council us in our ambitions. Her individualism is encouragement to us to be unafraid of being ourselves, of doing and thinking what we honestly feel is right, even though it means that we are no longer one of the crowd. This is but a small token of our thanks for her patience, understanding, and never-ending willingness to help us through all our problems. In appreciation of all your admirable qualities, we wish to dedicate this Yearbook to you, Mrs. Mary Leach. The Senior Class of 1962 salutes Mrs. Goldie Day for her assistance in helping produce our Prom. With a theme such as I Love Paris , we needed hundreds of flowers to create a springtime effect. Mrs. Day gave her time and effort to help us make all the flowers. We are sincerely grateful for this assistance, and we offer her this salute. Mrs. Goldie Day The Senior Class of 1962 offers a salute to Mr. Calyin Jewell, especially for his assistance in helping us pro- duce our Prom. Without Mr. Jewell'3 help, we could not hare spent so many evenings decorating the gymnasium. He offered his time and services whenever we requested them, whether it was helping us decorate or providing trans- portation to and from Utica. For his unending patience and willingness, we salute Mr. Calvin Jewell. Mr. Calvin Jewell In Honor At. Walter Bucko ski The senior class of 1962, here in our Yearbook, honor our principal, Mr. Walter Buckoskl, for his many years of dedicated service to Orlskany Falls High School. In 1949 he taught Math and Science here, and also was the Gym teacher. He spent the next year teaching In Waterville. He returned in 1951 and has been principal here for the last ten years. On October 1, 1961, Mr. Buckoskl left for Fort Gordan, Georgia, to go into active duty as Captain of the 414th division of The United States Army. Mr. Buckoskl has always been a sympathetic listener to all of our problems in our schedules, our activities, and all the other minute, insignificant, every-day problems of our years in high school. He has always been there when we needed him to lend a word of advice or a guiding hand. As our Physics teacher, we have found him to be an individual. A man who based his opinions, not on other people's opinions , but on facts; tried to establish one specific way of doin'' something way of us to wording a problem or drawing a think for ourselves, to form our personalities and character in us become individuals, unique our in If someone had a different conclusion, he encouraged own opinions, and to develop our own way. In short, he helped everything we plan to do. Mr. Buckoskl's orders state that he will be on active duty six months to a year. When asked how he felt about leavin , replied that he had expected to be called to duty because he was the Reserves. He regretted very much that he had to leave, but felt that since it was seen fit to recall him to active duty, would serve his country to the best of his ability. As the students who have known him, we would like to say that we feel Mr. Buckoskl is a wonderful person, a credit to our community, and a good friend to all of us. We regret that he has had to leave, and we would like to offer him wishes and good luck in this coming crisis. from he in he he our sincerest best The Senior Class of 1962 To all my boys and girls: You may find it difficult to believe that I get sentimental on occasslon—but as I look back over the past 10 years pleasent memories come to mind. I have watched you laugh, cry, sing, study, dance, work, play games, participate in athletics—and experience the whole gamut of emotions peculiar to youth. My association with all this--the process of your growing up—has been a memorable experience which I wouldn't change for anything in the world. Permit me to say what your teachers and many who visit our school have told me— that you are an exceptionally fine, well-behaved group of youngsters. It goes without saying--that each of you--from the cutest little Kindergarten student to the Class of '62—will be in my thoughts while I'm away. Walter S. Buckoskl Principal Mr. Charles Paris To Class of 1962 - go my best wishes. I am sorry that I hare been associated with you such a short time. I truly feel that this Is one of Oriskany Palls' finest classes. I hope that school life has fitted you to meet your responsibilities of the future. It is our sincere hope that you hare every success in the future. Sincerely yours, Mr. Paris Vice Principal Mr. Charles Dwyer Guidance Counselor As you leave high school and enter an occupation or a college, we hope that you have received an education that will assist you in your future endeavors. The caliber of work which you have displayed in school is indicative of what an employer or a college may expect from you. However, to hold a position a person must continue to put forth effort; he must continue to produce in order that he may achieve a higher degree of success. I sincerely hope that your life work measures up to your capabilities. In Appreciation Miss Doyle's retirement this year marks the termination of thirty years of devoted service at Oriskany Palls High School. Miss Doyle has been the fifth grade teacher here sines ly l. She has helped her students through the beginning of their adoles- cence. She has given them the guidance and counseling which was needed, to moxa their characters into those which would belong to the leaders of out country. Our most fitting tribute is the high esteem felt by her present and former students and fellow teachers. It has also marched at Firemen's Field Days, and it has won a trophy for its marching and playing ability. The first concert was held in January. In May, the band took part in the Semongca League Festival with the other schools in the League. This was a big night for them, and they played their very best. The band also had a Spring Concert here, and they played on Graduation night. Their music teacher, Mrs. Doty, is talented and understanding and with her willing assistance and patience the band will continue to be a success.
