OUR The fundamental mission of the Navy is to command the seasg to insure that these broad highways are available to us to move the large quantities of material necessary to our existence as the leading nation of the world, and when necessary, to move United States Armed Forces overseas and maintain them there. The Oriskany performs an important part of this funda- mental mission as a member of fast carrier Task Force 77 in Far Eastern waters. At sea with her powerful air group aboard she serves the United Nations as a fearsome deterrent to renewed hostilities during the high tensioned Korean truce. As part of this mobile striking force her influence is not only felt in Korean waters but also in every other part of the far east where the threat of aggression exists. In foreign ports the crew of the Oriskany acts as a roving ambassador of good will, democracy, and the American Way of Life. In peace or war the Navy and U.S.S. ORISKANY are continuously ON GUARD as our nations first line of defense. ISSIG
