'Q C 'Q , ' , K '., 'wks ' ' f 1 5 CLASS HISTORY On a brlght sunny day the thlrd of September 1945 the follow1ng group of llttle tots trudged along the path toward the Or1ent Consolldated School to begln thelr long Journey through the halls of knowledge They were Max Fexck Duane Lmn Byron Ray John Shean John Shmkle Janet Capps Wyonne Guthr1e Martha Hazen Judy Josephson Mary Krablel Janette Purdy Charlene Speed and Barbara Wmlmeth Wh1le on the1r flrst stop the fxrst grade Mrs Wllllams taught these llttle folks the fundamentals of school namely staymg 1n the1r seats and bemg qu1et As the year progressed Rxchard Kuhns Ruth Jones Lmda Lane and Dennxs Tussey were added to our happy lxttle group At the beglnnxng of our second year whlle taklng roll Mrs K1rl1n found that a few seats had been left vacant by Duane Llnn Wyonne Guthrle and Ruth Jones However the seats were soon occupied when we galned Carolyn Mlller and R1chard Peters We also later acqulred John Davls and Bonme Long Towards the end of the year we were very sorry to lose R1chard Kuhns John Shean and John Shlnkle Our thlrd year of school was made much more lnterestlng when we galned Wayne Johnson and Larry W1ll1ams but we all felt a loss when Dennxs Tussey Bonnle Long and John Davxs declded to leave us Our lnstructor Mlss Holmes was very helpful mn guldmg us through that year Dur1ng the fourth grade we nemther galned nor lost any students Most of our t1me was spent 1n trylng to grasp the lessons taught by our teacher Mrs Strong Miss Sellwood was a very understandlng person when It came to managlng a group of growmg flfth graders At the begmnmg of that year we found we had lost Janet Capps and near the end of the school year we had another vacant seat when Judy Josephson dec1ded to leave us to move to Greenfleld We had one new addltlon to our flock Lo1s Schrader Movlng 1nto the Junlor I-hgh room we dlscovered that Mr Russell was our new s1xth grade teacher At the start of the new year one name that of Janette Purdy had been left off the l1st of s1xth graders Darrell Leedom came to Jom our class toward the m1ddle of the year and Janette Purdy dec1ded to re enter our grade Barbara Wllmeth declded to leave us and try out another school St1ll 1n the Junlor Hlgh room we declded to have a try at the seventh grade We found upon arr1v1ng that Mrs Reddlngton would be there for help and encouragement Dur1ng the thmrd sxx weeks we had two new add1t1ons to our class They were Kenneth Fry ard Robert Putney John Tolley also declded to come be a member of our studlous little group Near the end of the year Darrell Leedom moved away and left an empty seat 1 1 ' Y 1 . - 1 1 1 g 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 I ' 1 1 ' 1 1 ' l 1 1 ' 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 . . 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 , . y . . - 1 1 1 0 y 1 . ' 1 Bemg elghth graders we had to make our entrance lnto the Hxgh School assembly whlch was a new experlence for all of us When we were counted we found we had lost Janette Purdy and gamed Marllyn Stoll Later on ln the year we also lost Robert Putney and John Tolley Our Freshman year started out about the same as the precedmg year had We were fortunate 1n los1ng no students and ID gammg Jamce Gray At the begmnlng of our Sophomore year we found that we had lost Kenneth Fry H1s seat d1d not remam vacant for long but was soon occupled by Judlth Pace Rlchard Thompson also came to take h1s place 1n the ranks of the Sophomore class As Junlors and belng upper classmen we felt very lmportant We were all very sorry when we lost Larry Wllllams Judxth Pace and Janlce Gray No one was added to our group to take thelr places Flnally we are on the home st etch We are Senlors One of the beglnnlng members of our class Byron Ray declded to leave us thls year Those flnally endmg thelr Senlor year together are Max Ferck Martha Hazen Wayne Johnson Lmda Lane Mary Krab1el Carolyn Mlller Rlchard Peters Lols Schrader Charlene Speed Mar1lyn Stoll and Rxchard Thompson Twelve Years Together lx ax-tha Hazen, ar ra xc, ax exc , ar ene Saeed 0 I , . , . . I, Lois Schrader, do will and bequeath my ability to study on the school bus to Ruby Duff 19 CLASS PROPHEC Y As we were dr1v1ng through the country on our annual tour of the Unlted States we came to the town of Orlent Iowa As we passed by old Orxent Hlgh we thought of all the thmgs we dxd back m 1957 the year we were senmors All th1s seems so strange to us now Why just the other day we were looklng through our correspondence to rev1ew what all our classmates are domg now Here are some of the reports from them Mary Krabzel who was always good 1n muslc now glves concerts three nlghts a week at the famous Carnegle Hall She started th1s work seven years ago and plans to contlnue untll June of next year 1970 At that t1me she w1ll make an extenswe tour of Europe She also seems to be l1v1ng qulte lav1shly from the prof1t of th1s career Our last letter from Marllyn Stoll tells us she has f1n1shed her slx year course ln the Conover Modellng School and 15 now Number One model of the ever popular Vogue Magazlne Thls letter also tells us she has had a proposal from a mult1m1ll1ona1re whlch she IS conslderlng Good luck Mar1lyn R1chard Thompson IS now 1n Parls France where he IS des1gn1ng dresses ln one of Par1s's largest dress shops He has turned out a great number of sensatxonal deslgns the past years H15 name 1s known throughout the world as a very famous des1gner Keep up the good work Rlchard Lols Schrader was marrled just after she was graduated from I-hgh School She her husband and the1r three small boys are now l1v1ng on the old homestead east of Or1ent We hear she IS the only member of the 1957 class who has stayed m thls v1c1n1ty after graduat1on Ah here IS a letter from Charlene Speed It seems she IS a receptlonlst at the Whlte House 1n Washmgton D C a pos1t1on whlch she has held for the past f1ve years Very soon she IS leavlng th1s Job to be marrled to the Pres1dent's son Well we all can t lucky' Max Fe1Ck as we all know was always crazy about skung mn the mountams Well h went to Swltzerland after he was graduated and IS now a skung mstructor at Bern Swltzerland Ha has won the sk1 champ1onsh1p of the world for several years 1 . , . 1 I I . . l . , - . - . , 1 p 1 , . . . , . . . . . D . . , 1 ' 1 1 . 1 . . . , . .Q . . . . . . . . . . . . 7 I be . l ' .. . . . , e 1 Z0 In Martha Hazen s letter we see she 1S now appearmg at the Ind1anapol1s Speedway where she lS very famous It seems she IS the only woman dr1ver there Her great talent developed from her hxgh school drlvlng days Carolyn Mlller graduated from nurses' tralnlng and 1S now employed at a hospltal ln Rochester Mmnesota where she IS head nurse We always knew that she had what lt takes to get ahead We also hear that Wayne Johnson IS happlly marr1ed and IS runnmg a group of cham super markets Wayne has been domg very well 1n h1s buslness and IS maklng a very n1ce lncome He and h1s famlly l1ve 1n a beautlful home ln Northern Los Angeles Rlchard Peters wrote us that he and his wlfe are happlly marrmed They llve ln Southern Cal1forn1a where he lS an electr1cal engmeer As a hobby he draws cartoons for the Lll' Abner serles They l1ve ln a wonderful home and have two charmlng chlldren Lxnda Lane went to college and then taught school for two years And then she too txed the knot with her old hlgh school beau Rlchard Peters Now she IS busy taklng care of the house and chmldren Well that ends the letters we have recelved so we wxll resume our tour of the Unlted States It was so n1ce flndlng out what all the klds of the 1957 Class were dolng wasn t 1 '7 Spellmg Contest Wlnrzers . M-. .......-M. ...ii .-M.-M. .M-.- 21 1,1- 411' if wi X J gr, NX U1 AX W W ,Iunlor Senwr Banquet The 1956 Junior Senior Banquet was held on Saturday evening at 6 30 April Z1 in the high school gym Upon entering the gym the guests were greeted by a colorfully decorated room The ceiling was draped in streamers of green red pink and yellow These warm cheerful colors set the scene of Candyland The walls were given the illusion of a garden wall with delightful candy flowers peeping over the wall At various intervals candy trees were placed on the floor The banquet was prepared by the members of the Junior class and served by the members of the sophomore class The waitresses were attired in bright red skirts white aprons and white blouses The waiters wore dress pants and white shirts Both waiters and waitresses wore white chef's hats with Candyland written on them The tables were centered with candles the nut cups were Candyland castles Each guest was presented a program which carried the menu of delightful Candy land delicacies Soft music was provided as a background for the dinner The entertainment for the evening consisted of a vocal duet by Mary Krabiel and Linda Lane a Cornet Connie Frederick and Marlene Woodrich and a tap dancing number by Patty Brown Following the dinner and entertainment a dance was held with music provided for by the Swing Kings of Indianola v CLNUYL-ANU O O solo by Lois Schrader, a vocal number by the girls quartet, a musical novelty by te we ! . hill ll HJ 'iw VF? Wayne Johnson, Director Christmas Dance One of the big events of the year was the Christmas Dancc held December Z2 in the gymnasium and sponsored by the junior and senior classes Music was fur nished by Jack Mills and his orchestra of Creston featuring Maxyne Blair and her Hammond organ The gym was an array of beautiful colors with red and white crepe streamers cascading rfrom the ceiling and hearty wishes of Merry Christmas and Happy New Year at either end of the gym A Christmas tree was nestled in one corner of the gym and a life size Frosty the Snowman made by the fifth graders of wire meshing and crepe paper was sedately standing guard in the other corner fireplace with an angel mounted above banked the east wall and the entrance was an archway of red streamers vaultmg from the ceiling A merry go round Christmas stand bys was hung directly from the middle of the gym ceiling an of course the finishing touch mistletoe was hung from every possible place A rest to the tired dancing feet came with the intermission Punch and cookies piece was a huge gold star covered with evergreen and small Christmas balls Red candles on either side of the punch bowl and red and green napkins were the finishing touches to the refreshment department To thc music of I ll See You In My Dreams' the dance came to a close and exeryone dcpaited ror home wlth the feeling of an evening Well spent Our sincere thanks are extended to everyone who made this dance possible in any way to those who helped transfoim the gym into a mystical Christmas land to Doris Peters and Molly Spaiks who made thc- punch and a special thanks to Mr and Mrs Harry Slezak Mr and Mrs Wyman Graham and Mr and Mrs Don Worster our won derful sponsors who made the dance complete C A I B I I ' ' ' ' Il ' ll ll , . - . 1 . .
