A Look Into The Future I have before me the shreds of a p1ece of paper Th1s paper was once the charter of the Semor Class of 1952 As the year was drawmg to a close these Semors held a frnal meet1ng before Journeymg out 1nto the world At th1s meet 1ng they tore th1s paper mto shreds each shred representrng a person From these shreds I w1ll try to p1ece together the1r pasts so I can tell you what they have accompl1shed On th1s f1rst shred I see the name of Bob Chadw1ck Bob as you know was always a great art1st When he graduated Al Capp h1red hrm to create hrs comxc str1p character of L1 l Abner Bobby d1d so well and was so well l1ked that the ed1tor of the paper put h1m 1n charge of all the com1c strrp wrxtmgs Now Al Capp 15 h1s ass1stant Th1s p1ece of paper has George Weed s name on lt George has been very successful srnce graduat1on He started to work 1n the Pennsylvama Coal Mrnes At the f1rst meetmg of the un1on he was elected Pres1dent of the Un1ted Coal Mrners to succeed john L L.ew1s Smce h1s elect1on h1s f1ery speeches and h1s w1tty comments have brought success to the coal m1ners w1shes However he made one w1sh of h1s own That nothmg should mterfere w1th one s work except a g1rl On th1s shred I see the name of Barbara Culbert As you remember Barbara was always one who had the ab1l1ty to play a gu1tar After graduatxon she went to New York to try to get on the rad1o She has been qu1te successful and she now has her own rad1o program She keeps her aCCOmpan1St work1ng try1ng to keep up w1th her when she plays Turkey ln The Straw on her gu1tar She recently composed a new song wh1ch she t1tled St1cky Cactus Rag' On thms next shred of paper I see the name of jrm Campbell As you remem ber j1m was always noted for h1s speaklng even though lt was usually out of turn Jlffl thought he m1ght take up pol1t1cs as a career and so he went to college and took up publ1c speak1ng and debat1ng Now you can hear Jrm as Pres1dent of the Un1ted States Senate call1ng out the phrase every now and then rn a speech G1ve me l1berty or g1ve me death' jrm says sornet1mes he would just as soon be dead On th1s p1ece of paper I see the name of janet August1ne When janet graduated lt was rumored that she would e1ther get marr1ed or go on to college to become a mus1c instructor When the tlme came she had a few xdeas of her own She decrded to go to Harvard Un1vers1ty and take up the study of medrcrne She spent most of her trme spec1al1z1ng 1n d1seases of the human body Now that she has been graduated she has gone to South Amer1ca where she 15 try1ng to f1nd a cure for any dreaded drsease that hasn t been d1scovered yet R1chard Evans name 15 wr1tten on thrs shred of paper The summer before graduatmn R1chard went to Cal1forn1a to v1s1t hrs s1ster Wh1le there he became lnterested 1n hot rods He now 15 back 1n Cal1forn1a d1'1N1Ilg one H1s last car was the Blue Fhvver and wh1le drrvmg lt he won the t1tle of the world s worst dr1ver at a San Franc1sco speedway Th1s p1ece of paper has I..ev1 Recoy S name on lt Levr had no rdea what to do after he graduated A l1ttle later he decmded he would l1ke the newspaper busmess L.ev1 started at the bottom as errand boy S1nce then he has worked to Ed1t0I of the Lovelorn Column He hopes someday to become Ed1tor 1n Chref H feels he should make xt sometlme rn the next f1fty years SNOWDEN GROCERY O e t Iowa Phfme 76 Brrardale Fme Foods rl n o . We chose the colors blue and wh1te and the carnatlon as our class flower Thus we completed our fn-st years of school and we were ready to Journey 1nto hlgh school where we found more adv enture We started our f1rst year 1n h1gh school 1n the fall of 1948 By ga1n1ng Ronn1e Dax 15 we started the year w1th Z5 We ga1ned Norma L1ttle from Cromwell and lost james Bathurst and Myron Speed The second semester found us w1th Z4 but we soon lost jack Speed and Ronme Davls We journeyed 1nto our tenth year of learmng W1th much amb1t1on Norma Tucker started the year out W1th us and we lost Norma Little Marc1a Thompson and Oran Glade In our jumor year we started our year w1th Z1 members Th1s mcluded jack Speed who started wxth us but dropped The second semester Oran Glade Jo1ned us aga1n The h1ghl1ght of the year was the jumor Seruor Banquet 1n Apr1l We worked nearly all of the last semester on lt The theme was Rose Garden of Fr1endsh1p The last lap of our Journey found us W1th janet August1ne Frances Buchanan j1m Campbell Bob Chadw1ck M1ldred Clayton Phyll1s Duff R1chard Evans Barbara G1lbert Jerry Hadley jerry Goetz B111 jay LOUISE Mltchell Dave Musmaker Susan Purdy L.ev1 Recoy Pete Stewart Carolyn Strong Norma Tucker George Weed and Oran Glade Dur1ng the summer Charlene Carson dec1ded she would d1scont1nue school here and dropped At the begmmng of the second semester we found that Pete Stewart had Jomed the Navy and Norma Tucker had become a w1fe The teachers we had m h1gh school mclude Mr Speed Mr Lovely Mrs Rust M1ss Gustason Mr L1ggett Mr Sturm Mr Scholl M1ss W61SShaar Mrs Graham and Mrs R1gby What 1S the class 1n Or1ent H1gh W1th wh1ch 1n w1sdom none can V199 Tr1umphantly we hear the cry 'The Semors Who are the people brave and gay Whose eyes possess the r1ght of way? On th1s p1ece of paper 1S the name of Phy111s Duff As you remember Phyl11s was always afra1d of dogs and cats But you should see her now' You all probably were expect1ng her to marry Chuck Freder1ck and 11V6 happ1ly ever after Well Phyll1s marr1ed h1m but 11fe 1sn t qu1te what she expected lt to be Chuck was hdV1ng a hard t1me f1nd1ng a Job so Phyll1s dec1ded to go 1nto bus1ness herself She IS now runn1ng the Happy Homes for Lonely Dogs and Cats Chuck st1ll cont1nues h1s part t1me work on the l'a1l.1'Oad The1r household now cons1sts of three k1ds wo dogs and f1ve cats Th1s shred seems to have erry Hadley s name on lt It seems that s1nce jerry was Photography Ed1tor on the 1952 annual staff he has taken 1nterest 1n photography Shortly after graduat1on he was employed by the New York T1mes Newspaper He Sald They can t f1nd any Job too l1ttle or too b1g for me The last Job he tackled was the rescu1ng of a k1tten from a l1ght pole jerry says Never can tell Truman m1ght call me up to take h1s p1cture tomorrow Here 15 a p1eCe of paper Wlth a rosy cast to lt Whose name 15 on lt but that of B111 Jay B111 was go1ng to follow 1n h1s father s footsteps and become a carpenter But d1d he? Oh no' Instead B111 dec1ded that he would 11ke to cont1nue h1s educat1on He fmally wound up bemg a Judge 1n a d1vorce court The only cases he doesn t try are h1s own On th1s next shred of paper I see the name of Carolyn Strong Carolyn had 1deas about becom1ng a nurse It seemed to be a ch11dhood amb1t1on Carolyn got her expemence at the Greenf1eld hosp1ta1 1n the summer of 51 It seems that she hked to nurse Pete Stewart so well that she Jomed the navy just to be there 1n case of an acc1dent However just last week she was d1s charged and now 1S the Wlfe of LaVern Bladen A11 of these shreds of paper seem to be the same but here 15 one wh1ch 15 a l1ttle d1fferent You can eas1ly see why when you read the name on lt It 15 that of Pete tewart Pete was always a loyal c1t1zen of these Un1ted States so he thought he would go and serve 1n the Un1ted States Navy Pete always thought that When there s a good f1ght let me 1n on It That s why he changed g1rls so often On th1s p1ece of paper I see the name of Susan Purdy Suse Sald she would always l1ke to teach school However she got max-r1ed and moved to Cal1forn1a so she could see the mov1e stars It has been her hfelong amb1t1on to meet some of them S1nce she s been there she has had var1ous stars 1n her house for V1S1tS Among them have been Lass1e Tr1gger and Champ1on Here 15 a p1ece of paper w1th Frances Buchanan s name on lt In school Frances always took a great interest 1h sewmg Srnce graduat1on she has set up her own sewmg school and 15 teach1ng three classes a day By the way the name of her sewmg class 1S the Old Lad1es Rrp It and Strtch lt Sewmg C1rcle On th1s PIECE of paper I see the name, Dave Musmaker While 1n school Dave was one of those k1ds who sat around dreaming how to become a m1ll1ona1re the fast and easy way Now you ll f1nd that Dave 15 a m1ll1ona1re Here s how he got h1s money Dave made his f1rst m1l11on at the races and h1s second on the stock market I-hs th1rd m1ll1on'P He marr1ed 1t' THE MIGHTY LITTLE CAFE . , u u q , n A ' n .
