Prophecy In a small cottage m the suburbs of Omaha our former Mxss Gustason just tucked ln her three sets of trxplets and has settled down mn front of the fxre to kzll a few hours before bedtxme She reached for her True Romance magazme but she pxcked up by mxstake the Who s Who xn Amerxca for 1961 The book fell open to a full page picture wxth a b1g bold headlxne WORLD S NEW HEAVYWEIGHT BOXING CHAMPION Curlous to know who owned th1s fam1l1ar face she began to read the artxcle and to whom do you suppose It belonged? None other than Kenneth Mornson Well now that was qulte a coxncldence Vera had been class sponsor when Kenneth was a sen1or at Or1ent I-hgh School xn 1951 She began to wonder whether or not the rest of th1s remarkable class had achxeved enough success to rate a hstxng ln the Who s Who Wxth th1s thought she excxtedly turned through the pages hunt1ng more famxlzar faces and names Realxzxng that she was gettmg no place fast she decxded to use one of her old grade record books and look them up alphabetxcally Mary Andersen was the fzrst name on the lxst so turmng to the A s she slum med through the pages and sure enough there was Mary Well xmagxne that' A Lonely Hearts and Escort Bureau under Mary s d1rect1on 1n the bxg town of Spauldmg Hum Vera mused do you suppose Spauldxng has grown that much smce l saw 1t last? ' pract1ce perxod at O I-I S She reaped good profxts from her hard work because as Vera found she now 15 dxggxng up all the dxrt for Walter Wlnchell It seems she won some sort of a contest by uslng the most Richard Hudnut permanent waves and th1s was her reward I ll bet Lols makes a cute lxttle secretary don t you? Well well well Lou1se Clayton fxnally got her wlsh Maybe the Korean War helped her out a bxt but anyway the Who s Who names her the bravest mess sergeant on the front lxnes Wonder how the fellows l1ke her cooklng? 'P 'P The fellows call her 'Lovable Looxe Vera read the name Bob Cra1g she remembered how he always had the urge to become a great pxamst so she wasn't too surprxsed to read that he had composed h1s own arrangement of the Mxssourl Waltz She read on and found that he had been elected Presxdent of the Umted States because of the populanty of hxs arrangement The shock was almost too much for her Funny how Omaha and xts responsxbxllty keeps her mxnd off the Umted States Presxdent But then I suppose wxth mne chxld ren she doesn't have much txme for anythxng else Next on the lxst she found Ralph Hazen's name so she turned to the H sectxon and soon located Ralph He was 1n the znterxor decoratxng business and of course he would need an asststant to help wxth color schemes so he hxred Dorothy Keesey Thls struck Vera as be1ng odd because she remembered how Dorothy had been color bland back at O H S but perhaps Ralph d1dn't know th1s Oh well what he doesn't know won t hurt hxm Z8 ' ' ' ' - - I Vera recalled Lois Caviness who always kept the typewriter humming in the I ' ll

Some of the other employees for 47 48 were IV11ss Mlller as the dxmng car hostess As some of us walked to the tra1n barber shop we found Mr Rutan as the barber I-hs speclalty was butch haxrcuts for some reason As we were lookxng around for some entertaxnment we found Mrs Graham wxllxng to lead us ln some mus1cal numbers Don t look now but as Henry burst mto the baggage car he saw Mxss Gustason and then he exclaxmed Is th1s where they keep the bags? She lgnored hxm and went on llftxng and sort1ng luggage We hear she got this posxtxon as baggage car attendant by havxng so much experxence 1n lxftmg typewrxters Thxs year Ronald Davls left us for other dest1nat1ons As we were just pullxng out of the Omaha statlon Mxss Gustason decxded to stay ln Omaha to study a year at the Un1vers1ty of Omaha but she returned to help us on the last two years of our study In our sophomore year we chmbed aboard the Streamlxner We fxnd three new employees th1s year As the gang started for the sleeplng room who d1d they fxnd ln charge lt was Mrs Meyers Qulte a coxncldence don t you thxnk'? As we went to lunch we found Mrs Goodall as the chef 1n the dxmng car Oh here omes Mr Llggett sellzng perxodxcals on how to play basketball football and baseball He even gxves personal demonstratxons we hear We had two other employees Mr Franks had an orchestra on th1s Journey Mrs Rlgby was the sololst on th1s Betty Johnston started her Journey th1s year wzth us but soon left us to journey on 1n another tra1n Bermce and Verna Chapman left us at the close of the year for other destlnatxons In the fall of 1949 we clxmbed aboard the Zephyr to Journey through our Jumor year Mr Moss gave some of us a few lnstrumental lessons We talked Mrs Graham 1nto leadxng our group sxngxng The next fall we chmbed aboard the Rocket for our journey through the senior year As you w1ll notxce we have advanced our means of transportatxon and xt seems to be gettxng faster We fxnd Nhss Wexsshaar runnxng from one car to the other f1rst helpxng the band pract1ce and then runnmg scales wxth the vocal group After May 1951 twenty one very happy and eager semors w1ll board the Beautlful Vlsta Dome traxn searchxng for new and brxghter horizons wfvwwewwvv-or-r Gl's remark What I want to get most out of th1s army IS me Glrl to boy frxend I d1dn't say xt was a small dxamond I just sa1d xt looked l1ke xt was all paxd for' It looks lxke ra1n sald the boardmg house hasher as he set a bowl of soup xn front of one of hxs boarders Yes mt does the boarded repl1ed gettmg a whxff of It 'but xt smells a lxttle lzke soup Z7 , , . . . .
