Class H1story In their effort to reach new horizons the first grade of 1939 boarded the Cumberland Rose for the second grade room Since it was a small train they were all placed in the caboose with a very kind conductor to take care of them This conductor was Miss Betty Smith The passenger list reads as follows Donna Boom Frances Buchanan Lois Cavxness Bernice and Verna Chapman Louise Clayton Richard Evans Cran Glade Doris Howe Henry Johnson Richard Keating Levi Kinkennon Louise Mitchell Kenneth Morrison David Musmaker Donna Pace Marie Perkins Barbara Ray Dean Reeves Alice Ryan Barbara Slezak Dale Stephens Barbara Steel Glen Stewart James Wxlmeth George Weed Bill Jay and Jerry Goetz During the trip some of these passengers got off at various Junctlons and went their individual ways Those were Richard Keating Marie Perkins and Dale Stephens Not quite able to stand the rugged trip Gran Galde and George Weed re turned to first grade to wait for the next train a year later The other passengers arr1ved safely perhaps not soundly at the second grade room In 1940 we went aboard the Union Pacific goxng through second grade Miss several new passengers came aboard the train They were Rex Brown John Musmaker Robert Craig Don Dowmng Mary Anderson L.ev1nne and Levonne Hazen Some of the other passengers got so excited about the new passengers that they forgot their tickets so they had to go back to the depot and wait for another train They were Richard Evans David Musmaker Glen Stewart and Bill Jay In our third grade year we boarded the Southern Pacific Miss Holmes was our chief cook and bottle washer on the Journey During this trip several passengers got off at different stops They were John Nolan Myron Speed Mary Anderson and Loretta Steven The train was moving too fast for Donna Boom so she got off and waited for another tram the next year As we boarded the Chicago Northwestern in the fourth grade we found Mrs Mitchell as our capable engineer This year there were several new passengers that got on board with us They were James Case Ralph Hazen and Norman Cochran Levinne and Levonne Hazen Alice Ryan and Jimmie Fust got off the tra1n at different stops during this trip At the beginning of our fifth grade year we boarded the Northern Pacific Miss Wilma Caryl was the engineer for this trip Donald Sticken Myron Speed and Shirley Williams were the new passengers on this Journey Z5 ' C J - Kinyon fnow Mrs. Kirlinl was our very expert engineer on this trip. On this journey After Mzss K1ll1on crxed all aboard' we started on our Journey through Junxor hxgh on the Rock Island with Mrs Mitchell as engineer and Miss Rlchardson as the conductor On thls Journey Delbert James and Geneva I..1lly Jomned us On thms Journey several of the passengers left thexr luggage 1n the depot and had to go back and walt another year They were Rex Brown Don Dowmng Levx Recoy Myron Speed and Donald Stxcken After the rough Journey through sxxth grade we boarded the B 81 O and found the Junxor I-hgh B 81 0 Raxlroad Company had added a new employee Mrs Reddlngton who worked 1n the club car keepmng good readmg mater1al avaxlable and gxvxng spec1alEngl1sh lessons to those passengers desxrxng them Mr Black was the sw1tchman on the Journey wmth M1ss Rrchardson very capably helpxng hmm Thxs year Sally Welss Dorothy Keesey and Paul Ryan Joxned the group of pas sengers aboard the traln Along the way Delbert James deczded to get off at another statzon xn a town whxch seemed to 1nterest hxm more than Orxent When we got about to our destmatxon Jerry Goetz found out that he had left h1s luggage at the depot so he caught the next traxn back home and decxded to wa1t untzl the next year In the fall of 1946 we all boarded the Great Northern traln 1h order to reach our next step the n1nth grade ln our very long Journey Th1s year we f1nd Mrs Strong as the mathemat1c1an on our Journey Mlss Repplxnger had charge of the observation car Mrs Reddxngton was st1ll lssumg good readxng materxal Along our Journey we happened to meet Ronald Dav1s and asked hxm to Jo1n our group on tlus journey On thls tr1p most of us were rather sad because one of our passengers Frances Buchanan decxded on the spur of the moment that she would not be able to make the trap w1th us In the year 1947 the followxng passengers got on the New York Central to start the tr1p through high school Mary Anderson Angelene Carson L.o1s Cavxness Bernxce and Verna Chapman LOUISE Clayton Bob Cralg Ronald Davxs Ralph Hazen Dons Howe Henry Johnson Dorothy Keesey Geneva Lxlly Kenneth Morrlson John Musmaker Donna Pace Barbara Slezak Barbara Ray Paul Ryan Beverly Speed Sally Wemss Mary Wxlharns Shxrley Wxllxams and James W1lmeth As you can see the two new passengers were Beverly Speed and Mary Wxllxams Durmg our tr1p through hlgh school we had three permanent employees on the tr1p Mr Speed was our very capable englneer I-Ie has kept us mov1ng w1th plenty of speed Mr Lovely was the conductor because we never went any place wxth out h1s permxsslon and he has kept us on the r1ght track for four years Oh' You a1n't heard nothxn' yet It s Mrs Rust goxng from car to car sellxng books and magamnes fof course they are all educatxonal She xs pluggxng the book Moby Dxck th1s trlp 26 . . . . J. ..-...- .M Some of the other employees for 47 48 were IV11ss Mlller as the dxmng car hostess As some of us walked to the tra1n barber shop we found Mr Rutan as the barber I-hs speclalty was butch haxrcuts for some reason As we were lookxng around for some entertaxnment we found Mrs Graham wxllxng to lead us ln some mus1cal numbers Don t look now but as Henry burst mto the baggage car he saw Mxss Gustason and then he exclaxmed Is th1s where they keep the bags? She lgnored hxm and went on llftxng and sort1ng luggage We hear she got this posxtxon as baggage car attendant by havxng so much experxence 1n lxftmg typewrxters Thxs year Ronald Davls left us for other dest1nat1ons As we were just pullxng out of the Omaha statlon Mxss Gustason decxded to stay ln Omaha to study a year at the Un1vers1ty of Omaha but she returned to help us on the last two years of our study In our sophomore year we chmbed aboard the Streamlxner We fxnd three new employees th1s year As the gang started for the sleeplng room who d1d they fxnd ln charge lt was Mrs Meyers Qulte a coxncldence don t you thxnk'? I Q I I Il Prophecy In a small cottage m the suburbs of Omaha our former Mxss Gustason just tucked ln her three sets of trxplets and has settled down mn front of the fxre to kzll a few hours before bedtxme She reached for her True Romance magazme but she pxcked up by mxstake the Who s Who xn Amerxca for 1961 The book fell open to a full page picture wxth a b1g bold headlxne WORLD S NEW HEAVYWEIGHT BOXING CHAMPION Curlous to know who owned th1s fam1l1ar face she began to read the artxcle and to whom do you suppose It belonged?
