We, the Viking staff of Parkview High School, honor the memory of Jerry Hoff in our 1965 Viking. Jerry is remembered by all for his athletic abilities in football, basketball and baseball. He was the Most Valuable Playerf' on the football team, as well as a member of the conference championship basketball and baseball teams. His friendly personality and pleasant at- titude gained him many friends throughout his four years of high school, and he is truly missed by all. Supt. Delbert L. McGinnis A Parting Word - The Class of 1965 has the pleasure of being the first class to graduate from the brand new Parkview High. We, in the administration of the school district, hope that you will always be proud of this fact and will look back with fond memories of your senior year at Parkview. At the same time we hope you have prof- ited by your four 'years in high school. I hope you will give some thought to these parting words: Every human mind is a great slumbering power until awakened by keen desire and by definite resolution to DO. Principal Hugh Cl Porter To the Seniors As graduating members of the class of 1965, you have succeeded in attaining one of the major goals of your life. 'Graduation, however, should not be looked upon as the terminating point of your educational endeavors. In reality, it is the opening of a door to a world of unlimited oppor- tunities. It is through a continual quest for knowledge and the subsequent self-improvement which accompanies this that you will be able to lead a rich, satisfying life as responsible citizens in this great country of ours. I sincerely hope you will take the step across the threshold of the open door and enjoy the fruits of the future it holds. DA LE BA RRY The counselor's job is helping the pupil to adjust himself personally, educationally, emotionally, and vocationally. As a counselor, I try to help the students solve some of their many problems. I feel everyone needs gui- dance or someone to talk to about their problems. I wish I could give the students the answers to all their questions, but this cannot be done. How- ever, by discussing some of their ideas and suggesting certain things, I feel the student is able to solve some of his problems. Some things which we as counselors may use to help students are friendly talks, cumulative records, interest tests, achievement tests, in- telligence tests, and vocational guidance materials. It is the hope of the guidance office that by the time the student passes through four years of high school, he has benefited from his association with the counselor and some of the materials he has received from the guidance office. The Student -Faculty Advis - ory Committee was formed this year as a mediator between the student body and administration of Parkview High School. It consists of four faculty mem- bers and four members of the Student Council. The duties are to discuss and advise changes or improvements in the policies of the school. The committee is headed by Mr. Hugh C. Porter. iking Staff Julie Haugen Cyndee Tews The editing of the first volume of the new Park- view Viking was undertaken by a large staff. The staff consisted of students from all the classes in school. The editing of the Viking was a big project and it took the cooperation of the entire staff to put the Viking together. Because Parkview is a new and a bigger school, the Viking staff decided to make a few changes in the annual. The staff increased the size by adding a larger number of pages. To make the book neater, the staff also decided to go to type reset, which will make the printing clearer and much neater. To stress the idea that Parkview is a new school, we are using many pic- tures in the annual that will emphasize the new school. STAFF ROW ONE: J. Mielke, L. Lansverk, L. Joranlien, S. Its best games were against Belleville and Clinton, both eventual conference champs, Belleville of the State Line and Clinton of the Indian Trails. The Vikings, young and inexperienced, were skilled on defensive tactics but lacked the offensive punch early in the year to push the ball into the all important picnic grounds , the end zone. The games were: 0-14 Clinton 0-20 Juda 0-6 South Wayne O-38 Argyle 0-l3 Brodhead 6-13 Belleville '7 -l 3 Blanchardville 20-O New Glarus Blanchardville proved to be the biggest disappointment of the season with the Vikings in the lead 7-0 only to suffer two fatal mistakes, adropped punt and a long pass over the normally tight secondary. Argyle proved to be a frustrating loss as the young Viking team could not cope with the running of Jim Wyss and the passing of all-conference Jim Burreson Frustration turned to glory in the last ball game as the Vikings ran up 20 points against a strong New Glarus team and then kept the Knights away from the goal line with reserves the rest of the game. ' ' The Vikings will only lose four seniors and will return the entire starting lineup plus key reserves. This fact plus the hard lessons of a losing season are raising high the hopes of Viking fans who see a winning season ahead for a great bunch of boys who worked hard all year and are looking forward to next year with great anticipation. Wrestling WRESTLING - The Parkview Wrestlers have had their best season that has ever been in all the years of wrestling in the Orfordville School's history. The team placed third in the conference tournament at Juda in February, the highest they have ever placed in tournament competition. By placing so well the team was able to participate in the regional tournament in Edgerton. The wrestling team will only lose two of their squad members this year. This was the first individual championship in the history of the conference wrest- ling competition, excepting Brodhead and Juda. CROSS COUNTRY - The sport of cross country was introduced to Parkview during the fall of the year. Because of the newness of the sport, there was limited turn-out otrunners. The seven members, however, remained steadfast in enthusiasm and competed well against the other schools. One could consider the year quite a success as six of the boys were able to win letters.
