They included: Lafe Alexand- er, DeLyle Amundson, Ralph Balch, Patricia Brink, Donald Dammen. James Dickison, Janice Egeberg, Harold Ensor, LeRoy Farrey, Dolores Finster, Barbara Foslin, Elizabeth Geer, Phyllis Gilbert, Carol Gilb- ertson, Eugene Mahlum, Joyce Hasselman, Arlene Johnson, Carole Klus- meyer, Melvin Hanson, Paul Miller, Richard Morris, Ronald Nelson, Wil- liam Olson, Albert Oatenson, Betty Perington, LaVerne Quass, Maureen Reavis, John Ryan, Ruby Kay Schmid, Joanne Stokes, and Cathy Verstynen. Mrs. Daniel Doone and Mrs. Elaine Wegner were our class advisors. Our class officers were as follows: President: LaVerne Quass, V1ce-Pres- identz DeLyle Amundson, Secretary-Treasurer: Janice Egeberg, Phyllis Gilbert and La Verne Quass were the representatives on the Student Council. The first big event of the year, was 'In1t1atlon,' which came on October 12. The Sophomores had great fun watching us do all those stunts they had planned for us. Afterwards, of course, we gave them a return party. The next event was Homecoming, October 26, for which our class had charge of the bonfire. Joyce Hasselman was repre- sentative on the Queen's Court. In 1952, we returned as Sophomores with twenty-nine students. A new student, Elizabeth Chamberlain, was added to our class. Mr. F.J. Schnabl was our class advisor and the officers were as follows: Pres- ident: Maureen Reavis, Vice-President: Phyllis Gilbert, Secretary: De Lyle Amundsong Treasurer: Joyce Hasselman, During the year, Donald Dammen, Joanne Stokes, Carole Klusmeyer, and Albert Ostensontrangfepp- ed to other schools. Our enrollment increased when Claudette Sumpten Bill Dav1s,and Roger Johnson came to Orford High. The biggest event of the year was on October 3, when we initated the 'Freshmen.' We won first place on our window decoration for Homecoming. Phyllis Gilbert was our representative for the Queen's Court. Suddenly, 1953, our Junior year, was before us. We began the year with twenty-one students. Hr.F.J. Schnabl was again our class advisor and the ofdcers were: Pres1dent:Iblyle Amundson, Vice-President, Roger Johnson, Secretary: Kay Schmid, Treasurer: LaVerne Quass Kay Schmid and DeLyle Amundson were representatives on the Student Council. Pat- rica Brink joined us again that year, but we also lost a few members: Maureen Reavis, Bill Davis, Melvin Hanson. Bill Olson and Richard Go- vert withdrew during the year, also Elizabeth Chamberlain and Elizabeth Geer. The most important event of our Junior year was 'Promn on May'L The theme was nstranger in Paradise.n Patricia Brink reigned as Queen and DeLyle Amundson as King. The court consisted of Janice Egeberg, Cathy Verstynen, Carol Gilbertson, and Betty Perington. We won first place on our window decoration for Homecoming. Maureen Reavis was re- presentative on the Queen's Court. Another big event was the Junior Class Play nAlong Came Charlie,' which was given November ll-12. We received our class rings in September and everyone thought they were 'really great.n In the fall of l95h, eighteen. very intelligent students entered O.H.S. as Seniors. Our class advisor was Mr. Richard Weaver. The off- icers were: President: Kay Schmid, Vice-President: Paul Miller, Secre- tary: Cathy Verstynen, and Treasurer: Janice Egeberg, Dolores Finster and Kay Schmid were representatives for the Student Council. The main events of the year were: Having our pictures taken October 9. Home- coming which was October 29. Cath Verstynen reigned as Queen and Janice Egeberg was in the Court. KaVerne Quass and Roger Johnson were the co-captains. Besides these events we enjoyed making our annual, taking our class trip, attending the prom given in our honor, and PBT- ticipating in the Senior Class Play. Then came Class night, Baccalau- reate Services, and Graduation. For some of us this all came to soon and now we must leave dear old Orford High and B0 f0Pth iHt0 the world. Some will go on to college and some will get jobs right away. But we will always remember all the fun we have had at Orford High. l MAIL FROM THE FUTURE Dear Mr. McGinnis: When we decided to take a vacation to Europe, we d1dn't realize how our senior class members were scattered over a number of countries. We had a two hour wait in New York before our boat left for Europe, so we glanced through the telephone directory, coming upon the title of The Richard Hey- erdahl Estate. We were curious to know if lt was the Richard Beyerdahl we used to know, so we decided to call upon him. The door was opened by the butler, none other than Le Roy Staeland. We were escorted to the sun parlor where our suspicions were confirmed, for sitting on the love seat with a French Poodle by her side was our own Cathy Verstynen, who is now Mrs. Richard Heyerdahl. We had a little chat with her and then we decided it was time to leave. Before we went on the boat, customs officer Jim Dickison, checked our luggage. Proceeding from there we d1splayed our passports to an old friend, Dick Morris, who is employed by the Travel Bureau. As we were wandering about the ship we ran into a fellow classmate, Carol Sumpter, formerly Carol Gllbertson. While we were talking she told us she was join- ing her husband, Wayne, in Japan where he is stationed at a Naval Base. While we were chatting we were paged by loudspeakers and recognized the slow drawl of Roger Johnson, who had been noted for his athletic abilities back in Orfordville. When we answered, we found there was a letter waiting from Mrs. Russell Borre, whom we knew as Claudette Sumpter. She informed us she is now living in Evanston with her husband Russell and son Bradley. We bought a paper and went to the lounge to enjoy reading lt. There we ran into the sh1p's hostess. We found to our astonishment it was Kay Schmid who had been a very good friend of ours back in O.H.S. We talked with her for some time and then she said she had to get back to work, so we sat down to enjoy our paper. As we read the fashion page we saw the name Paul Hiler which struck a familiar note to us. We continued reading and found that it was the Paul Miller with whom we had attended school and who is now very successful in 'Paris Fashion Designing' in France. We then turned our at- tention to the sports page where we saw the name Joyce Hasselman. Much to our surprise she is a jockey at Churchill Downs and has brought in the win- ning horse five times in succession. We received word our boat was to land in England so we prepared to leave the ship. As we landed on dock we saw another classmate, Janice Quass who was Janice Egeberg back in Orford. She told us that she and her husband LaVerne are teachers at Oxford University, LaVerne being the pro- fessor of Mathematics. She also told that she was meeting an oncoming ship bringing Betty Gray, formerly our Betty Perington, and her husband, Charles Gray, who are missionaries on their way to India. We then decided we would go to a small restaurant and get lunch. On our way we passed a big engineering school bearing the name Ronald Nelson's Engineering School. We figured' it must be the Bonnie we knew so in we ventured. Sure enough, sitting behind the executive's desk was the Ronnie Nelson of O.H.S. He told us he is very happy with his work and is engaged to a wealthy businessman's daughter. We then continued to a restaurant where we saw another familiar face--that of DeLyle Amundson. He told us he was resting after a season of baseball. Be has been playing professionally with the Brooklyn Dodgers. On our last day's visit we decided we would go to Spain to see a bullfight. Whose name should we see on the program, Le Roy Farrey's, who was fighting one of the most notorious bulls in Spain. This ends our report to you, Mr. McGinnis, and we wish you all of the success in the world as principal of Crfordvllle High School.
