Class of 1953 Front: Lois Fowler, Ruth Moses, lrene Pease, Secretary, Donna Morris, President, james Hall, Treasurer, Joyce Brady, Alayne Shaw, Middle: Mr, Guptill, Dorothy Drew, Alice Clark, Louise Davis, Hazel Young, Barbara Bailey, Miss Saunders, Back: Howard DeGoosh, Harriet Boutin, Shirley Joslyn, Robert Richmond, june Andrews, Richard Wright, Ronald Piper, THE LAST VICTORY It was a dark cold night, The snow was flying at what seemed to be fifty-mile-an- hour blasts. This was the last game, Orford's last chance to attain victory, Entering the hall, we could feel the tension of the players, warrning up in preparation for the garne, The anxiety was as great among the spectators as it was with the players, The activity of all those inside the warm hall made them soon forget the cold, snowy night which completely surrounded them, After what seemed to be an hour, the horn finally sounded and the garne was about to start, With grim determination the players took their positions, the fire of hope burning in every man who was uneasily waiting for the whistle, From the beginning of the game until the half seemed only seconds, Orford was definitely out to win, Each Orford player returned to the floor with new confidence, for at this point victory seemed evident, As if they had generated within themselves greatest power, the opposing team suddenly took control of the floor,, and basket followed basket, By now the spectators were in an uproar, It looked as if what once seemed a certain victory for Orford might turn to defeat, Each player became grave and determined, playing as he never had played before, As the end of the game drew near, the score was nearly tied, Our boys held the lead with great fighting spirit, At last the horn sounded bringing the gaxne to an end, Orford had won, As we again braved the frigid wind of the cold white world outside, no one seemed to notice the damp penetrating cold, Everyone must have thought deep in his heart, 'What a night even for a final victory, Class of 1952. 17
