History ln the fall of '46, eighteen Freshmen came into the honorable Orford High School on the day of September, Full of fun and nothing else they were: Joyce Greer Douglas Lackey Sue De Goosh Lawrence Daige Irene Davis Richard Thompson Thelma Shaw Clarence Moses Avis Huckins Roger Libby Joy Miller Thomas Jenks janet Willis Frank Lynes James Brown Clayton Huckins John Brown Gerald Pease Preston Joslyn On October 31st they were sorry sights, The girls came to school with one high shoe and one low one, All their clothes had to be worn backwards, They had to fix their hair in three pigtails with orange and red ribbons, The boys had to wear silk stockings with one shoe and one boot, Their clothes had to be worn backwards and they had to wear earrings and lipstick, Refreshments were served and garnes played, During the year a school paper was organized, Clayton Huckins won the prize for naming it The Highlight, Summer vacation soon came and they were glad, Next year they could treat the Freshmen as they had been treated, When they came back in '47 they found they had lost Richard Thompson, Thomas Jenks, Roger Libby, Clarence Moses, They also found they had gained Doris Quackenbush, During the year many of them made frequent trips to the office, Nevertheless, they passed, They ordered their class rings, School closed with the happy feeling that they would soon be Juniors, The Junior year opened with a few less members, Initiation soon came and this year they had charge of the great event, They received their class rings, Avis Huckins, one of the livliest members of the class quit much to their regret, However, they soon gained a member, Russell Smith, Some of the members of the class were chosen to be in the Senior Play of '49, Soon after they came back from their Christmas vacation they gained another new member, Bruce Landgraf, He proved to be a great basketball player, Softball and baseball practice soon came and then graduation, They started decorating the church for graduation and baccalaureate, Some of the members of the class were chosen to usher and Douglas Lackey was marshal, They finally received their report cards and were off to a happy vacation. 12
