It is our hope that the students that follow may develop these high qualities characterized by the new school which will enable them to lead a richer and more noble life. 3 DEDICATION To show our appreciation for his willingness to help us in any worthwhile thing We strive to dog for all the extra work he has done in helping to make the dream of a new school a realityg and for his determination and desire to do anything in his power to make our school a better place and the students in it better citizens, the Yearbook Staff of 1962 proudly dedicates this edition of the Tom T om to the esteemed principal of our new school, Dr. William Gustafson. 4 ADMINISTRATION DR. WILLIAM A. GUSTAFSON DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT- PRINCIPAL The fulfillment of many of our hopes and desires has been realized with the opening of our wonderful new school in Hardin Road. The new surroundings have spurred teachers and students alike to pur forth admirable effort in extending their range of studies and setting higher standards of accomplishments throughout the year . Students have disciplined themselves well to care for the new facilities so that the community may know over the years that Orestimba's students have real appreciation for the efforts of the community to provide top educational facilities . The Orestimba Parents' Club has increased parents' contact with faculty members, as both groups seek the same goals of wholesome maturity in knowledge, skills, and habits among our graduates. Our improved facilities for counseling have permitted more and improved Contact between our counselors and all students in school this year. Fewer students have found themselves in unsuitable class assignments than ever before. Adult classes, too, have increased their appeal as the new facilities became avail- able to the community. The resurgence of community interest in real education for youth and adults is a welcome sign that this has been a good and growing year at Ores- timba . 6 IVIR JOSEPH C. 0'LEARY VICE PRINCIPAL ROARD IIE TRUSTEES Since this class has the opportunity to ex- claim the virtues of the first graduation from the new Orestimba High School, we should look at some other dis- tinctions of the class of 1962. You have recorded a fine academic record and we will miss this achievement next year. On the athletic field you found success and ac- complishment. Many clubs and organizations profited from your presence and direction. You responded very well to new ideas in the schedule of classes, closed campus, and the organization of your school. You have the char- acteristic to direct yourselves and to adapt to new ideas. You will soon find that you need these abilities to reach your goals . I congratulate class of 1962, for a fine high school record and for the success you will find in the future. Those positions vacated by graduated students were filled very handily by some surprising newcomers, While most of the old vets hung in and performed up to expectations.
