For the rest of the year reporters from the journalism crew carriec notebooks and cameras to catch and recorc everything from the Hi-week dance to stu- dent body elections. Sports activities were captured as well as musicals and plays. The yearbook now offers a volume of nostalgia for Orem lr. The student council spent many hours in planning and spon- soring activities that the student body has en- joyed. From the Hi-Week dance to the new stu- dent council elections the students participated, mingled, and socialized with one another, The welcome to new students helped orient and make comfortable, people that were still unfamiliar with O.j.H.S. Student Council was responsible for the friendly and warm atmosphere in our halls of learning. The student council worked very hard to promote unity, cooperation, and co- hension at Orem jr. High School. Wzii I TE? MWMEIW W .QQ Hmm M -'M mul: Q Q -XMMW I35f,2,,IQ,,wEf:-1:35 M5525 f.,.. I ,i'I 'MEff2faW 'W A 'V L I Mmm'--W I mm' MEMW 'lwiiiff-5 SEg , M5Q3'V JMi?WfiQgM gif? M1Tl?xW-3 L. Junior high school was a new experience for them, but they handled it very well. New friends, schedules, and teachers were adjusted to and coped with. They had the new experiences of seven classes a day, getting to class on time, taking full physical edu- cation classes, selecting electives, and doing more homework than ever before. Our seventh graders were a real credit to our school and their many leadership qualities helped to make this year memorable. Disc-Jockey Rockin' Robby was at most of our dances, playing hit after hit. Through fast dances and slow, every- one had a great time. The Fifties Day Dance was held in Janu- ary, and a poll of students' favorite songs was conducted beforehand. The top twenty picks were featured, Michael Iackson's Thiller was the 41 choice, Hopefully, the friends and fun experienced during 83-84 will be long-remembered. it 64 ACTIVITIES UTAH VALLEY SYMPHONY PRESENTS The sound of music was the general theme for the concert given by the Utah Valley Symphony on Febru- ary 2, 1984. Many pieces were played by different sections of the orchestra and the orchestra also played as one. Many young people were featured soloists. An eight year old, jenny Oaks, was a special violinist. A young man on the bassoon also favored the audience with a performance. Assemblies such as this added to the cultural refinement of the O.J.I'I.S. studentbody. The Pall Festi- val, a fundraiser sponsored by the P,T.A., was an autumn highlight. The sponge throw was the favorite as student took revenge on the good- natured faculty and administration. Popular as well was the cake-walk, where those with sweet tooths took their chances on winning a goody. The dart throw, offering a challenge to skill and aim, was also a preferred activity. In contrast to the rowdy festival, Ballet West presented a delightful assembly featuring the art of dance. Players from the company introduced the audience to the rigorous warm-up exercises every performing dancer must do. After the exer- cise routines, the dance company performed a scene from the ballet Cappillia . These events made for a well-rounded year of activities. In the drama classes, taught by Mrs. Broberg, the students learned to express themselves and improve their acting. They attended several plays and work- shops to further their experience. Foreign language classes were offered in French, German, and Spanish, this year. In each class, much was learned about the language, his- tory, and customs of each country. At Christmas, they had parties with authentic foods. Language classes made learning a fun experience. 1. Mrs. Broberg's Drama Class hard at work! e we ,st 'f - 's ' . e e -2. .4 Ei A 1. As well as learning the basic operations of asewing machine and how to use it, sewing offered mini-units in laundry and fabric, making both these Home Ec. classes well-rounded. This year has been the year of the Olympics '84 held in Los Angeles, Cali- fornia, It has also unveiled an exciting Utah NBA team that has managed to stay first in the Midwestern division and will probably prove to a powerhouse in the final championships. Also, a smash- ing victory for the l..A. Raiders against the Washington Redskins has taken place. However, in our own school events have been almost as exciting. In- credible 3-on-3 competition upsets and victories have occurred along with an ex- citing climb to the second place spot in the state Hot Shot competition by a stu- dent from Orem junior High School. We have also had the football, soccer, floor hockey, chess, softball, and baseball events during lunchtime activities.
