by Tomas Patlan Make it a day on, not a day off,.’ Oregon State University celebrated Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with a week long celebration of his dream and vision. With the help of the Center for Civil Engagement, students took part in a week long celebration, dedicated to giving back to the community through volunterering at various parks, homes, clubs and shelters. On the morning of January 13th, 2013, droves of OSU students filed into McAlexander Fieldhouse, where there was a 8 community service projects for the volunteers to choose from. Volunteers went to Avery Park to clearn and resoil flower beds; where others served at the Boys Girls club, helping clean , creating a safe environment for young children;. With many other volunteering sites that students partcipated at, Oregon State students helped continue MLK's vision of a strong sense of community. MLK's Vision Keeping the dream Hundres of Oregon State students helped in any way they could. The simple act of volunteering your time can mean all the difference in someone's life. It is the act of selflessness that Oregon State Students demonstrated this day that would make MLK A slideshow of images of MLK Jr. play with accompaning audio of past speeches while students wait in McAlexander. proud. Students traveled to Avery Park to give back to the community by cleaning up the fall's foilage and resoiled flowerbeds for next spring's bloom. The Boys Girls Club in Corvallis was in some need of cleanup and maintenance-Oregon State Students were happy to help!
