We come rodoy 10 celebrote ..soid OSU president Robert MocVicor. ond celebrote they did. os opproximotely 650 friends, students ond foculty of OSU gothered to ottend the officiol dedicotion of the new OSU Foundation Center April 10.1981. The OSU Foundation Center wos built entirely with donated funds from the OSU Foundation, with no supplement from state or federal tox dollars. An elaborate talent show, titled the OSU Revue followed the dedicotion ceremony, initiating the auditorium of the center. Students gifted in the performing oris danced, song ond ployed their woy through o show before o sell out crowd of peers, foculty ond visiting friends of OSU. Gene Stemmonn. PARACHUTE JUMP A bteothlejj mom»m before lending. Con you imogine joining o club on compus ond being osked to jump from on oirplone of 6.000 feet for your first ossignment? Well, for about 15 students ot OSU. that wos exactly the cose. Members of OSU's parachute club paid $55 for their in-itiol jump, ond $12 for each additional jump, receiving in. struction from o trained staff. I'm really not sure why I joined.” soid sophomore Tracy Hill. I hang glide which is really dangerous, but I heard parachuting is even more exciting.” The highlight of the club's activities was a competition held at the end of the year. Members competed to see who could land closest to a designated mark, run to a spot and drop on object os close os possible to the target. One tragic note wos the plight of o 55 year old enthusiast whose cord foiled to detach from the aircraft. Unfortunately. he foiled to pull his emergency cord in time, ond wos unable to survive the ensuing foil. He died two hours after arriving of the hospital. - D.
