B. B. King? Who’s that? The Blues? For Moms Weekend? Skeptical hut dutiful, most students took their moms to the B. B. King concert. And the majority emerged either converted or with a new insight into the world of blues. What did they find? It was a w hole different kind of music. You came out feeling really good. Released, but not distorted like with rock. “B. B. had a lot of class. Polish, assurance, talent .. .whatever you call it.. .man. he had it. “He showed me a whole new w orld of music. Mom’s Weekend: never a dull moment College students sometimes want to forget they have parents; unless, of course, they need money! But when Moms Weekend comes, these same students are proud to escort their mothers around. Many find out how much fun their Moms can he. and Moms get the chance to participate in college life far from the worries and responsibilities of home. This annual campus event began in 1922 as Womens Day and men did not get to participate until 1936. la Makuahine Mckc Aloha (To Moms With Love) was the theme this year, and the schedule left no time for worrying w hat to do next . Tandem bicycle racing, icecream eating, brunching. lunching, and spending money, money, money at the Renaissance l air were common Mom and son daughtcr activities. Competition events were numerous and well-attended. They included ROTC drill, judo, women's crew , tennis, and photography, as well as a benefit tug-of-war and the popular Turtle Derby. Salurdax night. Momscnjoycda Rau liana dinner, featuring Hawaiian food and entertainment. Following was the IFC Sing, the traditional climax to Moms Weekend. Non-traditionalists didn't stop entertaining Mom until later, however. Many Corvallis taverns found business increased this weekend as students took their Moms around to the hang-outs . Most were surprised to find their Moms could drink them under the table! In all.
