Fall Sports Fall term sports at OSU. consisting of football, cross country, and soccer, were disappointing in 1971, but there were some highlights. Oregon State's football team suffered its first losing season under the tutelage of Dee Andros, finishing at 5-6. The big play killed the Beavers all year as they lost close games to California. Stanford, and Arizona after seemingly putting the contest away. But the big one. the Civil War played against arch-rival Oregon, gave the Orange and Black gridders their chance to salvage some lost pride and they made the most of the situation winning 30-29 in one of the hardest fought battles in the old series. The cross country team had to compete without its top runner. All-American Keith Munson who had to be red-shirted. but the team managed to come in fifth place in the Pac-8 and third in the tough Northern Division. The Oregon State soccer team had a successful season finishing with a winning record. n
