School of Engineering At OSU engineering students can specialize in five areas-civil. chemical, mechanical, electrical, or metallurgical engineering. The civil engineer uses theory and practice in design and construction of roads, dams, bridges, tunnels, and other structures. Oregon State offers the only accredited chemical engineering program in Oregon. Graduates apply principles of chemistry, physics and mathematics in the design, construction, and operation of plants for production of chemicals and products. Mechanical engineers may specialize in aviation and aerospace, air conditioning, automotive engineering, and refrigeration. Electrical engineers design electrical energy systems and information systems which include computers and control systems. The metallurgical engineer plans and supervises the procurement and processing of minerals to provide the metals, ceramics, and polymeric materials consumed by industry.
