The highlight of Hush Week brings both happiness and disappointment as pledges are chosen (above left). Personalities, Oregon State was enrolling its 10,000th student, Jeanette Emigh, ’66, (bottom center), while the Nickel Hops brought out the “hard cash’’ that had been layed aside in weeks past as the young gentlemen of the campus moved about making her acquaintance (top left). Bringing both laughter and serious moments to the campus was Drew Pearson with his accounts of visits and interviews with Mister “K” (bottom left). And then the big wind came —the worst wind storm ever to hit this part of the country— smashing property, such as car (above), in addition to the Sophomore Cotillion. Salvage operations meant a week of buzz saws and an informal Cotillion the following weekend with the music of Johnny Reitz (shown at left talking with Cotillion Chairman Lou Giottonini). 15
