On the great loom of time, will her men as warp anti her resources as woof, fast growing Oregon, soon to enter her second century of statehood, seems destined to contribute vastly to the rich fabric of human advance. Men of pioneering spirit, as symbolized by the statue atop the capitol building—lands and forests and power potentialities unsurpassed; these, webbed through the years, have produced a noble and expanding culture. Oregon life retains the vigor of territorial days and today reflects the wealth and beauty of the old “Oregon country.” This land is home centered. Its economy finds its ultimate expression in providing for home and family, the basic social unit. Bigger returns for agriculture, for forestry, for industry, make possible better home life and more careful safeguarding of its values. The women in the homes of Oregon, therefore, are in a key position in its economy. They nurture character. They link the generations, each to each. A major factor in the program of Oregon State college is the School of Home Economics which weaves the arts and sciences of family living into a pattern of happiness and well being. 3

SURF FISHING » one of the many attraction' to Oregon tourist . Third largest of Oregon’s revenue producing businesses is the tourist industry. An estimated 92 million dollars is the annual income of this growing business. Closely linked with the tourist industry are positions available to college students. Maintenance of national parks and forests provides opportunity for majors in the field of forestry. Management of resort and park areas offers the business student a chance to enter a unique vocational field. Publicity for such events as the Pendleton Roundup and Pacific International Livestock Exposition is often prepared by Oregon State college students who amplify their agricultural training with courses from the Journalism department. Agriculture as the second largest income producing business of the state afTords the student in agriculture innumerable opportunities for w'ork in a wide range of related fields. Students from OSC find that small businesses engaged in bulb growing and seed production, for example, need employees having the knowledge and ability of properly trained students. Oregon State college offers wide but well integrated curricula for the education of the men and women who contribute to the economy, culture, and society of Oregon. 5
