Her nearly infallible memory distinguishes her personality; her fairness marks her character. [ 5] In a position where knowledge is power, it is well to have one whose views are in accord with this axiom. Ulysses G. The chancellor of the state-system of higher education is also active in this organization. (( While the council recommends grants of degrees and investigates problems particularly affecting more than one school or division, its work does not overlap the duties specified for the State Board of Higher Education or president of OSC. GtCf TAftlAL SCIENCE Taking the responsibility and work of the secretarial science department on this campus is Prof. H. T. Vance, though the dean and director of business administration for the state is Victor P. Morris at Eugene. [16] fORESIRY Students in forestry are constantly asking the advice of Prof. Earl G. Mason, acting dean of that school since 195S. Appointed an instructor after graduation from OSC in 1910, he took time out to earn the M.S. degree at Yale. Besides being dean of education for the combined schools at Oregon State college and the University of Oregon, James R. Jewell is director of high school teacher training for Oregon. EDUCAIION Lower division dean, M. Ell wood Smith, is a scholarly and energetic person whose efforts have gained him Ph.D. and M.A. degrees from Harvard. He also directs the Oregon State college summer session. 1 R. H. Dearborn J was head of the electrical engineering department before becoming dean of the school in 1915. He is also director of the engineering experiment station.
