1 J L LL ft flUNTEft A real Beaver champion is Dr. Frederick M. Hunter, chancellor of the state system of higher education. Though he has been in Oregon only since 1935, he declares that an institution whose yesterday shows as earnest a spirit of service and as substantial a record of accomplishment as Oregon State college . . . may be sure that with continuance of that splendid spirit it will realize a magnificent tomorrow. (( For seven years before 1935, he was chancellor of the University of Denver. Being superintendent of schools in Lincoln, Nebraska, and Oakland, California, broadened his background in education. Prominent also has he been as a lecturer at Columbia university and the University of California. Born a Missourian, he is showing Oregonians how to handle one of the biggest educational jobs in the country. [11]

It is for his personality flashing through a friendly smile, for his easy conversation with students at all times, for his democratic spirit toward those with whom he associates that he will be remembered. i ] PRESIDENT PEAVY
