Thats how many of the fans and players would describe the 1953 football season. But it should be considered successful. The Pioneers posted a five Win and two loss league record They saw their chances for league championship slip through their fingers when they lost to Hillsboro in the last eighteen seconds of the game. This years starting line up consisted almost exclusively of seniors. Halfback Otto Mott was our leading scorer as well as top point maker in the county standings. He placed second in the 'T.Y.V. league. Pioneers Dick Boltz, Harold Achtziger, Chuck Misley, and Robert Hauck were selected as members of the T.Y.V. all star team, Larry Minor, Robert Hauck, Otto Mott, Harold Achtziger, and Lee Kidman earned berths of the EnterprisefCourier all county team. Fullback I. C. Wheeler was chosen to play in the Shrine benefit game of 1954. Otto Mott was an alternate for the same team. Paul Hood was voted the Most Inspirational Play- er of the year. Four of these games were lost by tive points or less. One real thriller was a loss to Forest Grove by only one point in a double over- time. As the scores show, they really caught fire the second hall of the season, winning 7 out of 10 games. Defeating West Linn in the last league game of the season put us in a tie for fourth place in the TYV league standings.
