N. PICKLES XV. STONE M. SCI-IOENIIORN uhlit bpeaking The successful work of Oregon City High School in public speaking contests during the past few years has been continued this year. Maureen Schoenborn took first place in the District Interpretive Con- test, and second place in the State Interpretive Contest. Wilina Stone won second place in the District Extempore Contest. Norma Pickles placed second in the District Constitutional Oratorical Contest. , .S Qlllassi Behatz The Sophomores this year won the class debates and consequently the name of the Sophomore class will be engraved upon the trophy cup. The final contest was held between the Sophomores and the Seniors. It was an ex-tempore debate, which is an innovation in these contsts. The winning team was composed oft Harriet Jean Herd, Cecil Petit, and Vir- ginia Gerber. Page Thirty-two 5 Grziffflt-Jil? Zltbletics .eq-um SDERIAN---71, SIR. HUDSON MR. DUNCAN DIR. KING Basketball Bfzxvlvnll Football L Zltblstins The past year has been a very successful one for the Pioneer athletic teams. More boys have reported for the squads than in previous years, and the teams have won a high percentage of their games. ' The football team had the most successful season in the history of the school, winning all games played by large scores. The 91 to O defeat of VVest Linn, and the 59 to 0 victory over McMinnville on Thanksgiving Day, were the high lights of the season. Although several boys are grad- uating. the abundance of reserve material among the lower classes assures Uregon City High of a strong contender for championship honors next season. The basketball team was built almost entirely from new material this year. Although they defeated both VVest Linn and Milwaukie twice each, Molalla crowded them out of the county championship by close scores in two out of three games. Most of the basketball players will return next year. . 55.5 W'restling was dropped in the middle of the season after the winning of two contests and losing of one, because of lack of a practice room. The golf team has been unusually active this season and very gen- erally successful. At the present time the team is leading the Willamette Valley League. Our track team was strong in the field events but late spring rains rendered the field in such condition that the runners were given little chance to develop. lVe defeated Camas in a dual meet and won points both at the Vancouver relays and at the VVillamette valley meet at Salem. Oregon City track team took the most points at the county track meet at Milwaukie. defeating VVest Linn and Milwaukie. Baseball was this year under the direction of a new coach-Mr. Dun- can, who built a team mostly from the under classes. VVest Linn has been defeated in two games thus far this season. Besicles the regular interscholastic teams, the school was represented by freshman teams in football and basketball. and also a light weight team in football. These teams were uniformly successful and rendered a good service to the school by developing much reserve material for next year's teams. imcxiwwfiiflif -'X HESDEHIAN--7 Zltbletic Becnrh FOOTBALL Pioneers . . . . . .26 Gresham . . . . . . . . 0 Pioneers . . . . . .20 Hood River . . . . . . 0 Pioneers . . . . . .20 Lebanon . . . . . . 6 Pioneers . . .14 Silverton . . . . . . 0 Pioneers . . . .. .56 Milwaukie . . . . . . . 6 Pioneers . . . . . .91 VVest Linn . . . . . . . 0 Pioneers . . . . . .47 Newberg . . . . . . . . 6 Pioneers . . . ..... 59 McMinnville . . . . . . 0 BASKETBALL Pioneers . . .23 Franklin . . . . . . . .30 Pioneers . . .28 Molalla . . . . . . .21 Pioneers . . .25 Salem . . . . . . . .48 Pioneers . . . . . .24 Milwaukie . . . . . . .18 Pioneers . . . ..... 22 Molalla ....... .... . 24 Pioneers . . . ..... 28 West, Linn ....... . . . .24 Pioneers . . . . . .15 Corvallis ...... . . . . . . . .17 Pioneers . . . . . .31 VVillamette Frosh . . . . . . .24 Pioneers . . . . .31 VV'est Linn ...... . . . . .23 Pioneers . . . . . .29 Milwaukie .... . . . . .23 Pioneers . . . . .45 Colton ..... . . . . .28 Pioneers . . . . . .41 Estacada . . . . . . . .40 Pioneers . . . . . .23 Molalla ..... . . . . .24 Pioneers . . . . . .25 Benson ....... . . . . .34 Pioneers . . . . . .21 Columbia High . . . . . .14 Pioneers . . . . . .29 Lincoln ......... . . . . .26 Pioneers . . . . . .21 Franklin ..... . . . . .24 Pioneers .... . . .12 Lincoln .... .... . 20 Pioneers .... . . .23 Chemawa . . . . . . . .21 GOLF Pioneers . . .11 Silverton . . . . . . 7 Pioneers . . . . . .11 XVest Linn . . . . . . . 7 Pioneers . . . . . . 8 Salem .... . . . . . . 6 Pioneers . . . . . .18 Woodliurn . . . . . . . 0 Pioneers . . . . . . 17 Woodbtirii . . . . . 1 Pioneers . . . . . .11 Albany . . . . . 7 Pioneers . . . . . . 6 Corvallis . . . . . . . . 6 Pioneers . . . .... 62 Salem . . . . . . . lly-4 Pioneers .... 8M Corvallis . . . .... 3M Q TRACK Oregon City .......... 53M Camas .............. 45M Oregon City ............ 59 Newberg ........... 43-173 Oregon City . . .59 Milwaukie . .402 West Linn . .22M Oregon City ............ 96 Silverton .............. 25 Paw 'l'lziriy-four 574: 353344 X E DEIII r 5 Jfnuthall D.
