The Task Force on Excellence in Education, consisting of twenty parents, students, teachers, and administrators, was formed and met for the first time Feb. 22, 1984. The forma- tion ot the Task Force was based upon the premise that the Ord Schools are sound, but not without room for improvement and issues should be addressed with an eye to the future with the challenge ot providing our young peo- ple with high quality education. The Task Force was charged with studying and reviewing the current status ot education in the Ord Schools with special emphasis at the high school level due to the makeup of the school involving graduation requirements, extra-curricular ac- tivities and interruptions to instructional time. s i'i' An assessement was to be made as to how the Reports of the Nation at Risk and the Governors Task Force ot Education applies to the Ord Schools. The committee agreed to study tour areas, namely, graduation re- quirements academicfextra-curricular balance and interruptions, curriculum and standards, learning climates, classroom management and time on task. The Task Force will make recom- mendations to the Board of Education in each area for their consideration for adoption, adop- tion with changes or rejection. At present the Task Force has made recommendations in the areas of graduation requirements and academicfextra-curricular balance. The Ord High system purchased four new com- puters this year which now adds to a total of eight. Classes involved with the computers in- clude Word Processing, which is an indepen- dent courseg Keyboarding a class offered for seventh graders, that advances and prepares I told you never to go beyond this much, says Mr, Bosworth. that student for future typing classesg Office Procedures which involves word processing, office filing, and managing on the computer, Accounting is taught by Ed Bosworth and Dave Shrader. lvfr, Huebner also teaches Computer Science and is also involved with the three classes in BASIC programing and PASCAL which is a correspondence course offered through the UN-L.
