She attended Reeths Puffer High School and graduated in 1964. She went on to Muskegon Community College and then to Western Michigan University to finish out her education. She began her teaching career at Orchard View High School, a job which lasted 19 years before she moved on to become an English Composition Instructor at Muskegon Community College, which is now her present occupation. We asked Miss Agard if she would like to make a few comments for us, she told us that It doesn ' t matter where you teach, it ' s the teaching that matters. and also that, Teaching is sharing a part of yourself with someone else, when this happens it is really nice. We also asked Miss Agard ' s students to make a few comments and this is what we got — Miss Agard was always smiling and having a good time. She made learning fun. Miss Agard was a different sort of teacher. She actually kept the kids interested in doing homework. She never had to demand or force. Miss Agard was the most energetic and fun teacher I have ever had. 1 think she would be a perfect president for the U.S. I don ' t think I ' ve known anyone with such a positive attitude all the time. She was always smiling, laughing, of making dumb puns. But, I have to admit that she usually brightened up the mornings of some of the sleepy and grumpy people in first hour. Miss Agard was my favorite teacher throughout high school. She always had a bright smile and a joke for you any time. Even if you were in a bad mood, she could bring you out of it. Miss Agard is missed very much by everyone. Miss Agard was a great teacher, she wanted us to learn, and genuinely cared about all her students. Our school has lost a great and caring person. She will be remembered by all of us. IN MEMORY OF D.J. RYLOTT You made me happy When I was down, You made me smile When all I had was a frown. There was no one like you You were your own kind, Now that your gone You ' ve been on my mind, You were a clown Which I will never forget. You slam dancing on the floor Calling everyone a booget. You were a trendsetter That was your way, You were the one and only D.J. David D.J. Rylott Birth: Sept. 26, 1970 Death: March 22, 1987 Activities: golf basketball, baseball. After D.J. dying Everyone was so sad, People all over were crying Some people were even mad. D.J. didn ' t want to hurt us He just didn ' t know what to do, No one is for sure what happened And 1 guess we ' ll never know what is true. Some say this is something he couldn ' t do. No matter what has happened to him All we can do is pray. We need to try to remember. All the good times from the past. This has hurt so many Yet brought so many closer, Someday the hurt will go away, but the memory will always last. So if we are smart We ' ll just let it be. There must be a reason, So we must try to forget the pain And just let it be! L. Laird SCHOOL BOARD School Board Members; J. Nielsen, R. Nelson, M. Tatrow, K. Tornga, C. Chaney, J. Williams, and N. McCarty HIGH SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION Dear Graduates: By the time you read this you will have graduated and have become part of Orchard View ' s long and rich history. You will always be special because you were the 25th graduating class of Orchard View High School. Orchard View takes great pride in the education it has provided its approximately 5,125 graduates. We have tried to provide you with the knowledge, skills, moral and physical background, and overall positive attitude needed in future life. It is our hope that you have an adequate foundation for whatever life may bring. You are now experiencing a new phase of your life and I, with many others, wish you the best in all future endeavors. It is also my hope that through your example the underclassmen recognize, as you did, the importance of a high school diploma. Again, best wishes and God bless each and everyone of you. Richard Brothers Principal Dear Students, The 1986-87 school year has come and gone in a flurry of activity. Due to the effort of you, the students, much has been accomplished here at Orchard View. More and more of you have become actively involved in school life. Involvement is key to the growth and development of Orchard View High School. In my five years as assistant principal, students and staff alike have become more involved in the functions of the school. Involvement in athletics, student council, honor society, close up, curriculum council and a host of other functions has created a more positive attitude here at Orchard View. Thi s positive attitude has caused the school to run in a more efficient and effective manner. With continued effort, this trend to be involved and be active will continue to grow at Orchard View. Hopefully, graduating seniors will take with them the need and desire to be involved and will be active in the community in which they live. Orchard View is indeed living up to its motto of Looking Good and Getting Better. Whether you are continuing on here at O V. or moving on to other ventures, my wish for you is to be involved in life. I wish you to take an active role in the matters that concern you. I wish you to make an impact on the world in which you live. Life is so much more enjoyable if you live it to the fullest and you can do that by being involved. Best wishes to all, Richard J. Camp was also a place which enhanced friendships. EXCHANGE STUDENTS Holger Meyer is from Germany. He was in football, wrestling, and track. His first impression of the U.S. was that people drive slow. Holger says he loves this country but misses his own country and friends so he wouldn ' t want to stay, but Watch Out he ' s coming back! Malene Jacobson from Denmark says, When I was in the airplane I saw a lot of pools, in Denmark we don ' t have pools. She likes play- ing Softball, and she thinks it ' s fun staying after school doing things, because in Denmark everybody just goes straight home. Malene likes it here, but at home she has different hours everyday, here it ' s just the same old thing everyday. She loves it here and has made a lot of friends, but she can ' t wait to see her old friends. i .k FEBRUARY Govert Gribling is from the Nether- lands. Govert was in the symphonic and marching bands, the cross country team, and the track team. He told us he couldn ' t believe he was really here, and that he had to pinch himself to see if it was real. He is having a great time here and he ' ll miss it all when he ' s gone, but he is here now and having a great time — that ' s all that matters. Dana Senkow, Michelle Bancuk We tried hard to make this the best yearbook ever! We looked through book after book from both the past and other schools. We used some of the ideas we liked along with some of our own. We also looked at what we didn ' t like and tried not to do that. We tried to get more snap shots of everyone not just the same people over and over. 1 hope we did a good job and that this book will provide you with many memories in the future years. THANKS!! to everyone on the staff for all their help and extra hours. 1 know some of us put more hours after school into the yearbook than we ever thought about putting into our homework. It was alot of work but 1 think it all paid off. I ' d like to tell the classes of ' 88, ' 89 ' 90, make the very best of your High School years, do as much as you possibly can and Have Fun! To the class of 1987, Best Wishes! and Good Luck! I hope all your plans for the future go well!!!! By the time Christmas rolled around we were down to about 20 kids selling more sub-sandwiches and attending more meetings. It was hard work earning the $780 per person to go to Washington D.C.. We had sale after sale and went to llecting donations. When the time finally came to go, the prom, and headed out at 4:00 j : all packed up after The week in Washington turned out to be an experience o a life time. We met Congressman and other top officials, bums, protestors, and homeless. We stayed with kids from Puerto Rico, and South Dakota. Talk about a cultural exchange! We went to meetings, had different workshops each day, and really got involved with our government. 1 don ' t think anyone can say that they didn ' t learn something on the trip. I really enjoyed myself and got involved. Thank you to Mr Nolan, made our trip successful. nd everyone who Top: H, Lukos, D. Gaunt, S. McCormick, A. Bernadini M Sheffer M Lee A Thayer R Secord. C.
