Front Row L to R : Lori Wierenga, Ronnie Fierros, Teresa Anderson, Jan Wierengo, Jill Campbell, Kay Covington. the 1979 Varsity Girl ' s Basketball team broke over 90 records? Their 21-2 seasonal record was highlighted by a 19-1 regular season record and a 9-1 conference record. Every scoring and rebounding redord in the con- ference was broken by this year ' s team. The team also held their oppo- nents to an average of 39 points per game. Orchard View placed four girls on the 1979 All-Conference team. They were: Lynn Burrel, named Most Valuable Player; Karen Decker, Jan Wieren- go, and Teresa Anderson. Penny Allison was given an Honorable Mention. Lynn was also named to the All State Class B and All-Area Class A-B first team. Jan and Karen were named to the All-Area Class A-B second team and Teresa was given an Honorable Mention. Many individual records were broken. Lynn Burrel holds the records for most rebounds and most blocked shots per game, season, and career. She also holds the records for most points (339) for the season and 729 for her career. Lynn was also selected Most Valuable Player by her teammates. Karen Decker, one of the teams co-captains, holds the record for the most points in a game (26). Jan Wierengo, the other co-captain, holds the rec- ord for most assists in a game (7) and season (93). Teresa Anderson tied the record for assists in a game and also set the record for most steals during a season with 110. Penny Allison holds the record for most steals in a single game with 11. The team ' s coach, Mr. Robert Chupp, believes that this year ' s team proved to be one of the finest in the area because of their individual strengths in combination with team balance. He was quoted as saying, I believe the 1979 Girl ' s Basketball Team was the most dynamic team I have ever coached. Their talent was outstanding and they exemplified a winning attitude at all times. With the return of three starters, a good summer, and a lot of hard work, the 1980 team should be a fine represent- ative of Orchard View Basketball. BASKETBALL SEA P M A H C Y A W 73

J.V. GIRLS i Hi - I V J -»j ' The Junior-Varsity girl ' s basketball team shared the title of Seaway Conference Champions with Lud- ington for the 1979 season. Captain for this year ' s team was Colleen Gajeski who scored a record 31 points in one game. The Varsity team played several teams which didn ' t have J.V. teams. In addition to playing in some Varsity games, 4 girls were moved up for tournaments. They were: Colleen Gajeski, Diane Dykstra, Lori Thomas, and Wendy Crummel. A win-loss record of 15-1 showed a great improvement over last year. The coach, Mrs. Kathie Carey, was quoted as saying, all girls r ere vital members on |this year ' s team.
