In Memory It's hard for us to put our feelings into words, but the task is made easier by the knowledge that every student in this school, every teacher and every member of the school staff feels the same way about Judy. Her thoughtfulness and charity earned her many friends, her personality and pureness of character endeared her to them. Few of us could offer something for having lived sixteen years on this earth, but Judy not only lived a virtuous, unselfish life, her self sacrifice and genuine love for others was always evident, always placed before her own desires. She was a rare human being, endowed with a wonderful personality, intell- igence, and popularity, and underneath it all, a pure heart. Judy will forever remain a living example, her life, a goal for us to strive to model, her memory, a shining spotless reminder that we are created for a purpose. What words could be used to describe a phenomenal football team! The fool all Quakers upset the applecart of football predictions which placed them in the dark confines of the Division I cellar for the 1957 football season. The rip snorting, strong willed Quakers were led by their hard charging captain, Bill Selent, a Division I all-star. Paul Schregel placed second in Division l scoring records. Doug Pierce, also a first team all-star, led the brick wall line of the maroon and white. There were so many boys, all with an intangible spirit, that each player deserves a gold plaque dedicated to his play on that fairyland team. Fourteen seniors leave the team this year and those fourteen are just about the back- bone of the team. But be sure and watch John Conners, John Selent, and John Summers when the grid iron of old Orchard Park be- comes hot with football fever next September. A shiny new trophy, a winning football, and a defeat of Amherst - all symbols of a great season. Football The Junior Football team at Orchard Park matched its mother club, the Varsity, by ending the season in first place. This team produces the future varsity ball team. Two likely varsity stars for future years are Gus Besch and Doug Scherff. Both scored 20 points to pace the scoring of the junior team. The over all team was one of good balance and strong attacks. This helps to justify the fact that this younger, but seemingly old in football wisdom, team scored a touchdown from at least every possible scoring position. These terrific football players only show that a future varsity is insured ofa winning ball club. With the assurance these boys produce, it is only fair to call their team the Organization for Stars of Tomorrow. Basketball is the name of this sport that reigns king during the winter months. The maroon and white net men faired well in a league loaded with strong opposition. The team started slowly at the beginning of the season but steadied out to a season filled with hard work. Some of the members like Dave Spink, Bill Borchert, Bill Selent, Tom Wakeman, and Don Zentz are seniors that will have to be replaced. Howie Corbin, Scott Johnson, and Brian Steisslinger will stand next year as the varsity team and they shoud carry their job expertly. Girls' Swimming Team This is the one sport at school where the girls can give the boys some competition. Since the swimming pool opened the girls at O.P. have been telling the boys that some day their day would come where there would be meets for girls only and also a meet where girls swam against boys. Well, this year it happened. At the beginning of the year a meet was arranged in which girls met boys. Of course the boys won and the girls have 'Qc img 3. Ir ,P quit their bragging. They have turned their attention to the meets where they swim against girls now. At their first meet they squeaked out a close victory over the Dele- ware Y.M.C.A. Their hard work and willing- ness have placed them solidly on the school athletic program. If they keep up all they have been doing thus far maybe some day they might beat the boys. Two school track records went under the axe by executioners Dave Sheldon and Pete Schregel, who set records in the lBO yard low hurdles and the 440 yard run respectively. The Section 6 tournament championships saw the maroon and white mile medley relay team of John Paul, Pete Schregel, Paul Schregel, and Jack Gallagher walk, or it should be said, run away with a first place. The team climaxed the season behind Amherst and Hamburg, but greatly added honor to the name of Orchard Park. Next year speedsters Paul Schregel and Tom Wakeman will carry the torch for the track team and should carry it well. rack Tennis This sport, relatively new, started the whole A school an a tennis trend during the hot summer months. Thanks to Mr. Erickson, the team continued this year and wound the season up with a won four, lose eight record. Dick Baldwin, Mike McNerney, Bob Hoppe, Mike Wilcox, George Lamont, Bob Tinker and Charlie Anderson won a total of l5 individual matches under the broiling sun. Usually wearing varsity hand-me-downs, they once again de- veloped a team that should fair well against all opposition on the varsity next year. The members included Pete Goebel, Greg Hen- ning, and Paul Klas. Next year should be a strong season with Scott Johnson and Chick Evans in there to bolster the team. Golf The future Sam Sneads and Ben Hogans of Orchard Park produced a solid, compact golf team this year under the only woman golf coach in Western New York.
