They are available to the seniors, the juniors, the sophomores, and the freshmen, and are awarded on the basis of scholarship and citizen- ship. The people to whom we are indebted for these awards are Dr. Johnson and Mrs. Johnson, Mr. George Graham Smith, Mrs. George Graham Smith, Mr. C. C. Whelchel, the Parent- Teachers Association, and the school faculty. The awards are: The Fred J. Galloway award, established by Mrs. Smith in memory of her father. This is to be granted annually to the most outstanding boy in the graduating class of Orchard Park High School. This award, consisting of a certificate plus 325 in cash is based upon scholarship, unusual qualities of character, leadership and prominence in school activities. The seniors themselves select five boys whom they consider most qualified to receive the award and then a committee composed of the principal and members of the faculty choose the winner from this group. The Ellen D. Smith award, 325 in cash and a certificate, established by Mr. Smith in memory of his mother. This is to be granted to the most outstanding girl of the graduating class, the girl to be chosen in the same manner as for the Fred J. Galloway award. Three prizes given by the school faculty are: A prize of S10 to the freshman who at the end of the year is judged to have done the best work in general science. A prize of S10 to the sophomore who at the end of the year is judged to have done the best work in world history. A prize of 310 to the junior who at the end of the year is judged to have done the best work in English. The Parent-Teacher's association is awarding 325.00 to the senior girl graduating with a homemaking diploma, who is judged to have done the best work in all three courses in that department. Mr. Whelchel's award is 3515.00 to the winner of a speaking contest. 66 Adlleriisvmvnis V . ' 4 ' ' -,fra- ' f 7 049 ' ' ff Y ,g,YA4f ' J 54 l fl HAVE YUU EUHGUTTEN SOMETHING? . . . .SQUID af . . .
