Crzomzrz W .num m gn 2 w. lecbca fion To a Sportsman, to a Friend, and to a Teacher: Since joining the Faculty in 1926, Mr. George Wakeman has become an invaluable aid in this business of getting an education. llis knowledge and his pleasing personality have made him a guiding figure in this school. Whether in the classroom or coaching the baseball team, he is liked-and respected. A tweed suit, a pipe, a comfortable brown hat, a cheery grin--that's Mr. Wakeman. Whether on the diamond or within the walls of the shop, he always has time to speak a friendly word of greeting or lend an ear to some one with too many troubles. Add to this a fine sense of humor and the result is-a man's man. ln acknowledgement of the work of a gentleman and a sportsman, we dedicate to you, George Wakeman, this symbol of our work, knowing that you will inspire those who follow us. We hail you as a good teacher, a good coach, and a good citizen. 5 PRINCIPAL, LAURENCE C.. BASEBALL TEAM With seven ol' last year's starting team returning, the outlook lor a baseball ehampionship is good. Baseball. wllieh always has the largest turnout of players at 0. P. ll. S.. was one of our best sports. this year. We had a fighting team that didn't know when to quit, and the boys were hattling until the last man was out. The team this year was eoaehed by Mr. Wakeman and was led in the field by Captain Holi llamm. Bob was the elliel' piteher and was relieved during the season by lfd. llenel and .lim Moehring. The rest ol' the starting line-up ineluded Diek Staflield. Clluek llaskell. Fred Zell. and Frank Winship in the infield. The only neweomer in the infield was ,loe Gaul. In the outfield was an all-veteran trio of Bob Larivey, Walt Downey, and Don lillis. The eatehing was taken eare of by Arvid Perison, a veteran. and Bill Farrington.. a new- eomer. Coach llandel has lost only one player from last year's starting tive. With John Schranl, Hob Long. Art Seible. and Mason llolmwood as a nucleus. the team shapes up as one of the best in thc league. The team linished second last season and with an all-veteran line-up, they hope to better the record. This tennis team is one ol' the many athletic teams of which we can be proud. As we look back now the years must have flown byg it seems only yesterday that liddie llenel was pinging erasers in Freshman English, Staff and Dusty were playing basketball with finesse and Bob Hamm was more bashful. The girls were dolls in net and swirling chiffon at our Junior Prom done in wonders of blue paper and silver stars. Then came the senior year with those added responsibilities. We elected Johnny' Schram the captain of our ship. With his able leadership to pilot us through stormy waters. we found our first port. The Night of January' l6th, our senior play. Then followed the Senior Hall, bringing glamorous girls and handsome escorts, enthusiastic N2'lllllllSu to celebrate Christmas fun together. Under the guidance of Marcia Noyes and ,loan Kingsley . we edited the Senior Slams, and Eldred Tubbs directed the work on the Rl-:I-'t.Et:ToR. June brought the traditional Junior-Senior picnic, graduation, freedom from school routine. We now look back on our school career with mingled feelings of regret and pleasure. Uurs is the challenge of today! 9 Not to be outdone by' Gallup and his Poll, and similar National surveys. the Seniors conducted a poll of their own early' last fall.
