Dedication The 1975-76 Annual Staff is proudly dedicating the 1976 annual to Mrs. Lois Tompkins. Mrs. Tompkins was employed at Orchard High School for many years and deserves to be recognized. Mrs. Tompkins came to Orchard in 1964. She taught eleven years, teaching English, Journalism, French and was librarian for two years. She taught grades 7-12, therefore having some students in class for six years. In addition to teaching her classes, she directed class plays and helped to get the National Honor Society started. Mrs. Tompkins has always loved school and young people. I'm really for the young people. Teachers should accept students for what they are. I always expected my students to do the best they could. Teaching to me has been a great source of gratification. Mrs. Tompkins took a great deal of pride in her work. She tried to spend a lot of time working with individuals and spent nights and weekends doing school work. Since Mrs. Tompkins's retirement from Orchard High, community activities are keeping her very busy. She has taken a big part in the Inman church activities, reading, which she has always enjoyed, and playing the piano. Being at home now has given her more time to spend with her family and many friends, but no matter how busy she is, she still misses working with young people. 2
