Although the record may not seem too impressive, considering games won and lostg it can be said the boys always gave a good account of them- selves and were always in there fighting, The loss of our veteran center, Skip Kenney in :he first game was keenly felt all season. The Senior glass was well represented on the squad. Al Smith :overed the quarterback spot and did some fancy run- iing. Paul Morgan at halfback gained much yard- lge for the Rams. In the line, Atheras, O'Brien, and lack Quinn were standouts on offense and defense. Sal Accardi also saw service at tackle, while john Maxwell played a fine game at end. We must men- tion our Sophomore back Bob Perna who played a bang up game all season. We look to him for great things for two more years. We take pride that three of the Rams were men- tioned on the All Union County teamsg namely, Al Smith, Allen Atheras and Bob Perna. Atheras, like- wise, made the All Ivy League team. The coach and squad should be commended for the fine manner in which they represented Oratory all season. 7 sgwr 'l, ' ik My Y. .sk ll ,, 'S jj itilasksfiftst' uni .gg ..., W ,,. , 76 Q :- WWW .fm S ari? is 'HF L ., .' Y 3 r 74 ORATORY OVERWHELM ST, The Oratory Rams, at the opening of their 1953 football season, ran rampart 25-0 over St. Bernard's eleven at Kelly Field, October 3rd. Oratory com- piled four touchdowns, all by fine running, while St. Bernards never penetrated the Oratory 20 yard line. Al Smith crossed pay dirt first for the Rams, early in the opening period on a 30 yard round-end jaunt. Phil Renard then broke away for a 25 yard RAMS BERNARD'S run for the last tally in the first half. Bob Perna scored twice more in the third period on two splendid runs, one for 40 yards and another for 35. Bob also rushed to add an extra point, to make .it a total of 25 to 0. However, the win proved costly, as Captain Skip Kenney fractured his right wrist. ORATORY BOWS TO DELBARTON On the afternoon of October 10th, Oratory met Delbarton School, on their home field, for the annual football classic. Both teams fought hard and during the first half the Rams held the Green Wave to one touchdown. This was made by an end run. During two periods the Oratory line held, but in the second half the Del- barton backfield began to move. They were hard to stop and their driving power was too much. The final score was Delbarton 27, Oratory 0. BAYLEY ELLARD 6-ORATORY 2 October 16th at Bayley Ellard field proved to be a tough day for the Rams. Lady Luck refused to smile and though Oratory threatened often, they ended up on the short end of a 6-2 score. The game was hard fought and closely contested but since the score counts, there was no balm for Oratory. Another injury was added to the Oratory list when Phil Renard was forced out of the game with a badly sprained ankle. I S.f,.,.i i WEQQTQBW - a t I x gwwwamf E ,,,, ,,,,
