i I' Fad The first Orange Unifed High School bus held 25 students. Starting in 1903, the Orange Union High School District voted to issue bonds totaling S5000 for buildings and equipment for the new high school cxampus, to be located on five acres at the corner of Palm and Glassell. Upon completion, the new building housed up to two hundred and fifty students, and visitors thought it was one ofthe finest school buildings in the state. When the school opened in September, with eighty-one pupils and four teachers, Helen Billingsley was the only senior in the class of 1904. The following year the graduating class had grown to seven. Growth continued for the next fifty years. Buildings were added to complete the quadrangle on Glassell Street. Graduating classes reflected the expansion of the city. In 1953, with no more room for expansion on the site, Orange High moved to the new campus at Shaffer and Walnut. At the present time, four district high schools accomodate the senior high students ofthe Orange Unified School District. E' ii - .
