I I' . 1 . . . . . , 1 60604 Way back 1n the year 1953 the Rough and Ready class of 53 at OTHS had approx1mate1y S500 1n a bank Due to a terr1ble m1stake by the treasurer Al'd1S West about 31:10 had been left xn the bank S1nce thas would have to be d1v1ded among the members of the class we dec1ded to have a homecomxng By the way Ardxs now l1ves tn Hopl-uns Mmnesota a suburb of M1nneapol1s where she IS a dress des1gner and teaches school off and on Her busband works for a large tractor factory and has a very 1mpress1ve salary so she says Whxle roam1ng aroung Waterloo Ihappened to see Cllfford Trent standmg 1n front of h1s establ1shment on Moblle Street It IS the WATJIG Garage for Bu1ck cars Cl1fford sa1d the trade 15 unusually good and the color black I also met Rlchard Pull1n and h1s wxfe the former Dorothy Seegm1ller Rlchard has a sheep ranch 1n Idaho and Dorothy runs a summer resort for movle stars Dorothy s only comment was that the1r Cros ley IS sllghtly crowded Bllly Mclsaury and h1s Wlfe the former Sh1rley L1chty Stlll lne ln the nelghborhood B11l owns four sec t1ons of land around Eagle Center They now l1ve on the 7th floor of the plush Eagle Hotel Sh1rley s sxde llne IS ra1s1ng purebred ch1ckens for the1r toena1ls wh1ch are used 1n maklng expensxve costume Jewelry The next two Jolly fme fellows Ihappened to meet down by the raxlroad B111 Foulk IS now the owner of the Sante Fe Rallroad He has h1s own pr1vate coach Wlth every conven1ence 1rnag1nable He sa1d Iwould flnd Davxd Mace farther down the tram Sure enough I found h1m trylng to back h1s car off a flatcar but w1th poor results Dav1d Mace Esq now a banker 1n Reno sa1d that he always goes by razlroad because It s too much l1ke work to drlve V1rg1n1a Wrlght now a p1an1st and psycholog st nearly dropped on top of me But she f1nally got her helx copter successfully landed on the roof of the new ultra modern snack bar here at OTHS She also has a Off IH the d1stance I can see several clouds of dust They are approach1ng rapxdly and f1nally I see sever al cars Carol St1rm steps out of the f1rst car and tells her chauffeur to park She tells me she IS now the act1ng pr1nc1pal of all the grade schools 1n Ch1cago She also sa1d that her husband ma1nta1ns the1r home on Prospect Boulevard and 15 the owner of the Canteen Servlce Out of the second car p11ed three good look1ng fellows namely D1ck Wagner Robert Klme and Joe Re1ter D1ck sa1d that the three of them are ln buslness together and that he IS the owner of the buslness Autos Inc It manufactures cars tn the h1gher than h1gh pr1ce f1eld steam englnes curved ptpes low compresslon heads square p1stons and gears and other uncommon automoblle parts Joe Relter I5 the head manager of the company and he sa1d that he ow ns several stables of race horses plus a few yachts wh1ch he uses to go on h1s vacat1ons every other month The last person to get out of the car IS Robert Khne He IS the master mechamc of the company and has bullt a super duper racer 1n h1s spare t1me He Sald that when It hlts 300 mxles per hour he can throw out the wlngs and fly low for at least 5 mxles Dan Becker couldn t make the homecommg so he sent h1s best wlshes by telegram Due to h1s long stay 1n Flor1da he got a very dark sun tan He now plays basketball w1th the Harlem Globetrotters Mar1lyn Nelson IS now a pollce woman 1n Des Molnes Her regular Job IS to dr1ve around and plck up undes1rable characters and people who d1S0bey the law Watch out rn n because she IS stzll gunn1ng for her male Oh yes she was MISS Cop of 1959 Gary L1chty and h1s vufe the former Nancy Krantz were the last couple to arr1ve Gary IS a productlon expert w1th the Ferguson Company and Nancy used to be h1s secretary but she got a good Job deslgnmg hats for the world s r1chest women By the way they now have quadruplets so Nancy has very l1ttle spare txme As for myself I m a b1g farmer w1th all of 4 l 2 acres of land and one covt Nevertheless we all had fun and have planned part1es for every year to come so when you see old alumn1 runnmg around you w1ll know what they are up to QJQXU'-idg 7SU77 rz,am70,4oYu 1 ga . .. .. .. ,, r A , . X I p eacofzelaugf ln the Fall of 1940, twenty one frxghtened and bewzldered lzttle boys and g1rls began the1r school career They were Carol Allen Jun1ta Arnaman Patr1c1a Bedard Marlene Bown Robert Damme Thelma Hart man Donald Isenhower Robert K11ne Sh1rley Ltchty Davld Morr1son R1chard Pull1n Clayton Rhoades Leona Sch1l1er Dav1d Thompson C11fford Trent Charles We1dman Byron Wh1te Vlrglflla Wr1ght Ronald Yarr1ngton Donneta Freese and Jxmmy Long Our fortunate teacher was Mlss M1l1er There are s1x of the or1g1nal group st1ll w1th us Robert K11ne Sh1rley L1chty R1chard Pull1n Davld Thompson Cl1fford Trent and V1rg1n1a Wr1ght Dur1ng our second year of school there were several new members Kleran Anderson Patr1c1a Batchel der Wxlbur B1enfang Joe Bruns Tom Fay LeRoy McNamee Carol St1rm Jerry Summerhays Roseann Trent Ard1s West Veda Young and B111 Bud George and D1na Jones Those that left our merry group were Jumta Arnaman Marlene Bown Thelma Hartman and Davxd MOTFISOH There are e1ght gradua t1ng from the f1rst grade class Our f1rst grade teacher was M1ss Baden N1neteen hundred fourty two brought seven new members B111 McLaury Max Cory Ruth Bernard Sh1rley Larson D1cky Myers Don and Marxlyn Nelson That year we lost Sh1rley L1chty Many of us have 'fond memor1es of our second grade teacher M1ss Grum' We were very fortunate to have an Old Gold Beauty of T C as our th1rd grade teacher We all engoyed M155 T1pton We lost Robert Damme and LeRoy McNamee Frank Lundak and LeRoy Magnuson Jomed our group now consxstlng of twenty flve Fourth grade brought back Sh1rley L1chty Sharon Refshauge Vernon Cecak and Norman Stoner Patr1c1a Batchelder left us M1ss Carlson was our lucky lucky teacher The one that Jomed us was Joanna Ely We lost two dur1ng our s1xth grade they were Norman Stoner and Vernon Cecak Seventh grade we acqu1red two of our present members B111 Foulk and Joe Re1ter Dor1s Thompson came w1th them also Joanna Ely left We were very honored to be able to cl1mb those hallowed sta1rs to our newly acqu1red home the assembly Those sta1rs have long s1nce ceased to be hallowed Pat G1rsch D1ck Br1dges and Lowell Seaman came dur1ng our exghth grade but d1dn t stay w1th us long At lh1S stage we had several teachers we were Just too much for one Pat G1TSCh D1ck Br1dges and Lowell Seaman left dur1ng our n1nth grade Marlene Johnson Nancy Krantz B111 Nanny and Darw1n Stevens brought our class enrollment to s1xteen We were greatly honored to be able to part1c1pate 1n the same act1v1t1es as the h1gh and m1ghty semors By the t1me we were sophs we were 1ook1ng forward to the day when we wouldn t have to cl1mb the m1ser able sta1rs to the assembly Corr1ne Cole and D1ck Wagner became members of our clan B111 Nanny and Darw1n Stevens left Our eleventh grade brought many exc1t1ng t1mes such as scrap and paper drwes part1es plays banquet and to top lt off money problems Gary L1chty Davxd Mace Dorothy Seegm1ller and Dan Becker 3o1ned our group and graduated w1th the rest of us ole t1mers Corr1ne Cole and Marlene Johnson moved Our class has had many fond memor1es to treasure 1n years to come The class of 53 produced two plays Our Jun1or play Desperate Ambrose and Sen1or play Cheaper By the Dozen We shall never forget events of our Sneak Day tr1p to Des Molnes our 11fe 1n Hotel Savery and the tours we took at Ili!! 137' Sadie I I 1 , ' . Orange had a fairly good season compared to the one a year before. We won 8 of our 23 games. Many of these games lost were by a very small margin. The Tigers tied for fourth place in the Cedar Consolidated Conference with a 3-7 record, however, the team made up for this by winning consolation in the Black Hawk County Tournament. A trophy was added tothe schools' trophy case. The season's offensive average was 48.2 per centand defensive average 51.7 per cenL Dan Becker was high scorer for the season with a total of 279 points, followed by Don Nelson with 271. The free throw award was won by Dan Becker with 71 per cent, Don Nelson was second in line with 68 per cent. Dan Becker and Larry Schroeder were chosen as co-captains. Dan Becker was placed on the All Conference First Team and Don Nelson was placed on the second team. The second team split the games they played by winning 8 and losing 8 for the season. Don Homolar had 113 points followed by Tom Akin with 112.
