As a result, they made up a great percentage of the attendance at all the school events. Their keen interest in the school was shown through their enthusiastic participation in all school functions. Of course, the juniors, biggest project was the planning of the prom. Their plans were well laid as everyone seemed to enjoy himself at flfanikiki Country Club, dancing to the music of Hal Lynn. In order to raise money for the Junior-Senior Prom, the juniors successfully presented Gilbert and Sullivan,s Pirates of Penzance. To add to the profits from the musical, they also sponsored the annual Sadie Hawkins Dance. Shortly after school started the Juniors caused a big discussion by ordering their class rings, and they were lucky enough to receive their rings before Christmas vacation. All the stars of the junior class worked together in producing a ri- otous old time movie which entertained the whole school late in the year. After a rousing and inspiring time during this year, the juniors are looking forward to their final year of high school. Gene Strmnberg, Dick Doran, Tom l'iI'llkl', Molly Lake. The high school organization that strives for student government is the Orange High Student Council. Under the leadership of President Tom Thomas, the Council was responsible for much of the schoolis social life, such as the XY6lCOIll0 Dance, the Homecoming Dance, and the Tax Stamp Dance. Under the guidance of Blr. Gephart, the faculty advisor, the Coun- cil set up a Dress and Behaviour Code, regulating the attire and ac- tions of the students. Also, in the planning stage, is a student govern- ment to punish offenders of the Code. During the first half of the year, an appointed committee worked on plans for a Senior Social Room, but after much working and plan- ning, the idea was defeated because Orange lacks a suitable room. The members of this year's Council were also active in the SOWV- NIAC Student Council, which met twice a month to discuss items of interest to Orange and the neighboring schools. 4-8 Senior National Honor Society Officers qlfflllg Iutln XXltl1CkN 5LQl'llll'N 'Nlollx tus lrunltnt Sh mlzng B ll NI n tlNllI'1l' Sue tx c l rt nr llns xear the Q irfnlml tllnptcr of the N 1ll0llil Honor Socntx ntxitul sutrzl Il16II1bLI'S from other sthoolb, Chagrin lfalls and K lex elancl Heights to tall hon their Socntns opt rate keeping tht qu il itns Sfl10llI'Sl1lIJ, lLdllCI'SllllJ, cllarac ttr and serxict fl0IIl1I1dI1t Ont of tht outstanding athlex eine-nts of tln G xrhtltl K haptc r, which is ablx led ln Nliw NI man lbflllglih, was tht ru mon of the LO!lSt1tL1ll0I1 So that the nesxlx in fll1CltflI1l6IHlXI'S could become acquainted nn tn outgoing SLIIIOYS ron: su irc inn 1 nrx nu nt on lux it 1 nnnlbtr 5 honu unior N ational Honor SOCICIY 5' gzlfzng 'NI Steclxel N lxttptrx NI lloslxtn Sfandznq I Nm lr lnnl ll l'1 L Bergmin lx Brldgu P NIlS0ll 'Xlr Xndrc-ss Tha Y ntori f hapter, or IUIIIOI' Honor South, lIlCll11lL5 mtmbc rs from grarlu sewn fight and rnnt and IS nnmlcr tht fins snpt FXISIOII of Ur lohn Xntlrus LOIHlJlIlII1g forcu with the Senior Honor Notntx 1 nut ltnnl of lllflllltlfbll xx is plnnnrl This xcar 5 Nlax lI1fll1Cll0Il cont nnul a sur prm tltnnnt Xnnel 1 lllllltllglll tln nut Illtllllltrw un.mn'1 of tnn' ngclutul o n 11 r orc than nnnu were nlnonncul it tht urunonx were pllllltil 49 - C7 , v . When the staff was really feel- ing ambitions, six pages of the latest news, sports, jokes, and gossip were inked on the three leaves. lYhen the stall was in the midst of exams or a big danee, the paper had all the information jammed into four sides of print. Barb SYIHCS, Burt Graeff, and lVin lvhittaker did such outstanding jobs that they were awarded memberships in the National Scholastic Press Association, however, the paper would never have made the homerooms eaeh Friday had it not been for the hard work of everyone on the staH. Page editors, the business manager, and the reporters all helped mold the HIGHI,IGH'l'S into a reality once a week. Glory and glamour doesn't eome to everyone that deserves it, and all on the l958-59 HIGHLIGHTS staff worked many hours a week for your newspaper. af' , i' Miss Sally Lou Pieree, the paper's astute advisor, finally became used to staying until nine o'cloek Thursday nights so there would be a paper the next morn- ing. Barb Symes, the managing editor, each week tried to find reporters to cover the big happenings? going on in the school. Often she succeeded, sometimes she had to get her own stories. Burt Graeff, assistant editor, many times had battles with his immediate superior as to what would or would not go into the paper. Burt finally resigned himself to doing what Syn ordered and helping with the sports page. .YYin YVhittaker, sports editor, waged a continuous battle with the advisor. He and Burt always managed to the wonder- ment of Barb and Miss Pierce, to turn out a sports page. ,Y 1- QM vga lf. Carol llvest, the Junior-Senior Choir was an outstand- ing part of the sehool's functions. This was the first year that Blrs. Wvest had a select group of juniors and seniors that met every day. The choir of eighty voices entertained many times throughout the year: and, for the students. a fascinating year in the musical field yvas elimaxed by the annual spring concert. All of the pro- grams during the year evidenced many long hours of practice. Although Babes in Toyland replaced this year's Christmas concert, the choir members kept the holiday spirit hy carol- ing through the halls. Also a small group from the choir lightened many hearts as they sang at the State Hospital on Tur- ney Road. Many members of the choir had a wonderful experience as they took part in singing with students from other schools in the SOlYBIAf' and Vounty f'horus concerts. .Ks for the seniors, they gave a final farewell to those that they are leaving behind as they sang Hay the Lord Bless and Keep You at liaccalaureate Service. ajorettes The SIX rnajoretteb led bw vlvacloub Nandx Post performed some spectacular fire routmes throughout the football sea son Then also added thelr enthuslasm to the pep rallles ludy Moore Kneelmg Nlncy Post Head majorette ' Y v 1 U v 1 1 Standing: Bea Kozak, Assistant head: Connie Grandy, Karen Bloomquist, Anne Frey GQ Cheer Kathy Ryan, Head Clnoorlc-adm-r Janet Lisy and Molly Lake leaders This year Orange-'s five cute and peppy Cheerleaders in their new uniforms led the Q-Illhllsiastiv student body in support- ing our teams at all the football and has- kctball games. Many of the Seniors now remember how they stood around the float at the far end of the track trying to keep the big sheet of plastic down over the huge football rocket as the wind and rain slowly tore apart two wccks of hard work. Last year as dreams of the prom flowed through the Juniors' minds, they began planning ways to raise money for the big event. First of all they held a car wash. Then, in the spring of the year, the class worked hard to make the annual Gilbert and Sullivan musical a success. H..ll.S. I'z'1zqforc was a colossal hit. Nfoncy was not the only thing the Juniors thought about. They excitedly ordered rings and displayed them proudly Then, of course, the year was climaxed with the wonderful Junior-Senior Prom. Q The prom left this money spending class in debt, so the Seniors started this year with a bang by working diligently to make The l,E S1l6'I'Ilfl' Hours' the best play ever seen at Urange. .Ks the middle of the winter approached, so did the senior pictures. Along with the pictures came all ot' the excitement of passing them out, as well as collect- ing them. These pictures will bring pleasant memories in future years. Since this was the last year for the Seniors at Orange, they had the privilege of being honored at many occa- sions. The mothers of the Seniors prepared a memorable party, the Senior Stag, for the whole class. During basketball season the departing members of the Vard Vlub formed a white U, and all of tl1e Seniors were recognized on Senior Night when each one wore a car- nation. The last day of school the Seniors attended the seniorluncheon. This cake weighed QGEQ pounds . . . and tasted like itl of high school. After the luncheon the Seniors became involved in graduation ac tivities. As they walked across the stage to receive their diplomas, each brought to a close four happy wars Papa pays . . . and serves. fi FAA G- A ff f- A .Nt tml ' I Q , I an i 1-unsi- IJ I 2' ,f 5 You name 'eu1, wc'll feed QCIII!
