IUNIOR CLASS HISTORY One of the biggest steps in our school years came in September of l952 when the class of i956 entered Orange High School. Ahead of us lay four years of many opportunities. A bit app. hensively our one-hundred and four students waited until we officially became mem- bers of the high school, discovering thankfully that the Freshman Welcome really was not as bad as the Seniors had threatened. Next came the choosing of class officers. We elected: President, Robert Edwards, vice-president, Barbara Day, treasurer, Richard Robbins, secretary, Ioyce Blackrner. As Student Council members we picked Kathleen Dowd, Candace Waite, and lune Woodrow. As one of the Good Government Day representatives, the school chose Robert Edwards as an exchange student to Worcester. At commencement exercises, Earl North became class marshal. ln i953 we returned to begin our sophomore year, this time more acquainted with our school. Our officers were Earl North, president, Arlene O'Lari, vice-president, Richard Gotautas, treasurer, and Duane Cutter, secretary. Our Student Council members were Kathleen Dowd, Barbara George, Marla Iohnson, and Carol Vorce. Good Government Day representatives from the sophomore class were Eleanor Atherton and Robert Edwards. After we had performed our initiation stunts to the satisfaction of the Seniors, we enjoyed refreshments and dancing. Class officers elected at our first class meeting were president, Maurice Brown, vice-president, Suzanne Wood, treasurer, Alan Novackg and secretary, Sally Conners. To represent our class in the Student Council we chose Arlene Davis, Herman Chaplin, and Robert Willard. Members of our class took part in sports, assemblies, and musical activities. ln lune, we chose Austin Tacy to lead us in the Baccalaureate procession, ln l954, we returned to OHS as sophomores. THE BAND AT THE 1955 MUSIC FESTIVAL Here's the band stepping it out at the Western Massachusetts Music Fes- tival which was held in Chicopee this year. The OHS musicians and Director Mal Hall had reason to be elated over the fine reception the contingent re- ceived and the complimentary comments made by the adjudicator, Irvin Schainman ot the Williams College music department. One of the band's most intriguing marching presentations - which drew plenty of attention in the parade - Was the Mambo Marche, done with the use of castanets, claves, cow bells and other traditional South American percusion instruments by the drum section, and special rhythm steps by tho twirlers.
