The swim team has improved alot since the beginning of the year in dedication, endurance, and self disci- pline. Swimming is becoming more and more popular each year with OG students which makes the swim team a growing family. Alot of the swim- mers swim year round through the Escondido Swim club which helps the team a lot. Steve Gillmore and Bill Akerman coach both the swim team and the E.S.C. The top swimmers for the guys include Seniors, Jason Poole, and Shane Sebastian, Junior Andy Taft, and Sophomore Tonio Whitely, Leading the girls were Laura Smith, Melissa Lynds, and Tara Nungessar. The 1988 Orange Glen track team was built on hard work and a dedication to excellence with the help of returning CIF qualifiers Glen Reyes and Lenny McGill. The Patriot Boys Varsity team ad- ded depth with a strong distance team led by seniors Paul Gentile, Bob Thweatt, and Jeff Gra- ham and great promise was shown by sopho- mores Javier Ramirez and Lorenzo Llrizar. The weight men excelled with strong performances from Jason Lau, Joe Stehly, Mark Gallo, and Trou Martz. In the sprint and jumps, Lenny McGill and Glen Reyes were again two of the county leaders while James Harris and Chris Ybarra added strength and depth to the fleet of Patriot sprint crew. Wayne Thebeau and Wes Stevens were our hurdle leader also challenged league leader in the pole vault as Ed Simm broke the 6 feet mark in high jump. The varsity team was led by returning CIF quali- fiers, Laura Hughes and Tara Carlson. Laura was a county leader in both the shot put and discus. Right behind Laura in the weight event were Ashe- ly Askegrew, Lisa Belz and Lisa Pitcher. The girls distance team was paced by senior, Kim Nyugen and the young but tough Patriot Pack attack of Anna Christman, Angelique Cotrell, Patty Diaz, Michelle Hastead, and Gretchen Scheible. ln the hurdle Tina Carlson, Yvonne Schwab, and Juliet Tiffany raced to success. The long jump and triple jump were dominated by Anita Dulay, Heidi An- derson and Leesa Bogart. The quickness and strength of Amy Westerlund, Susie Ramirez and Stephennie Tiere paced the Patriots in the sprints. The high jump trio of Tara Carlson, Laura Hughes and Jessica Lauha were the best in the county. This year's boys' and girls' program was en- hanced by foreign exchange students including: Malene Frederiksen, Elina Laurinen, Volker Gursch, Jan Koch, and Andre Floter.
