Patriots Advance In C.I.F. Playoffs Throughout the 1977 football season the Patriots overcame tre¬ mendous odds in winning the Avocado East championship. The fighting Pats finished the regular season undefeated with an 8-0-1 record, tying only San Pasqual in the league opener 20- 20. In the first round of the C.I.F. playoffs the Pats faced defending C.I.F. champs, El Camino. As it was most of the season, the Patri¬ ots came into the game heavy un¬ derdogs, but like eight times in the past, the Pats came out on top, winning 19-9. The team out¬ played its much larger and phys¬ ical opponents with great speed and aggressiveness. In the second round of the playoffs the Pats faced Sweetwater, the Metro League champs. The Patriots fought hard all the way, but fell short, 14-8, as time ran out. 11 players made all-league hon¬ ors including middle linebacker Chris Hudson, who was voted to the first defensive team and also defensive player of the year by the Avocado League coaches. Also elected to the defensive first team were tackle Brian Kay and cornerback Ken Miller. Voted to the first team on offense were quarterback Doug Disney, wide receiver Chris Corp and Guard Jim Larzalere. Voted to the sec¬ ond team were running back Ronn Day, defensive tackle John Maletich and linebacker Curt Osborn. Tight end Dave Davis and offensive tackle Scott Para¬ dise received honorable mention. Head Coach Paul Moyneur along with his assistants Jeff Carlovsky, Leonard Shaw, Bud Serviolo, Jerry Fenton and Glen Freeman, did a fantastic job all year with a team lacking size and the super- star atheletes, leading them on farther than anyone would have dreamed possible at the begin¬ ning of the season. 4S y »i ' ' a.
