Ross. He has been the principal at Orange Glen since it opened its doors a mere two years ago. Each year he has proved to be more indispensable, for he is the hidden pulse of the school, the coordinator innumerable details. His dependable manner of handling large or small problems, his cordiality although pressed for time, have earned him first place in the hearts of all who know him. Therefore, that is why we , the students of Orange Glen High School, are proud to dedicate to him, the 1964 TORCH. Before we came to Orange Glen, two years ago, it was merely a group of buildings lacking in tradi¬ tions and colors. New traditions have now been formed and old ones strengthened. We have had disappointments but our strong school spirit has made up for them. More than ever in this past year, we have felt the tremendous growth of the student body, the crowded lunch lines, inadequate library, and packed classrooms. Though we were crowded our school has still thrived. Orange Glen has surged forward. The school has begun to take its future shape. The gym and addi¬ tional classrooms are taking shape. Buildings have sprung up here and there dotting our campus. These new buildings will enhance the beauty of our school, and help to ease our crowded situation. At its outset. Orange Glen represented merely the outward shell of a high school. The thirty-five members of our teaching staff have spent time and energy helping our school develop and have devoted additional time establishing a sound extra¬ curricular program. Through many trials and tribulations the TORCH staff has tried to capture this population explosion. In these following pages you will view the growth of Orange Glen High School. 5 6 Superintendent MR. GUILFORD QUADE MR. GUILFORD QUADE Board of Education MR. WARD C. SANGREN, clerk; MR. GOLLEY JEFFERS, member; MR. GHESTER E. GAL- YEAN, president; MR. WILLIAM M. KENNEDY, member MR. G. P. KANE, vice president i Principal’s Message Nineteen-sixty-three has offered each of us an opportunity to live during a critical period of world history. We have seen the overthrow of na¬ tional governments; the assassination of national leaders; an increase in the world crime rate; threats to the basic foundation of democracy. These tragedies are more than mere historical records of 1963. They clearly indicate that the fu¬ ture of our nation, and indeed of the world, de¬ pends today upon an educated citizenry. The challenges confronting our democratic way of life have been, and in the future will be, successfully met by our educational system. The Escondido community is aware of the vital role that education must play in a dynamic society and have provided you with the means of develop¬ ing your potential to the maximum. I am con¬ fident that each of you will accept the challenges presented by the events of the past year and will wisely use the resources available to further develop the tradition for excellence which is yours. For a new school, our curriculum is second to none. Under the direction of Mr. Wil¬ liam P. Radney, Director of Curriculum, the various departments of Orange Glen High have worked diligently to maintain the highest scholastic standards of the state of California. Freshman math class students work problems on the board as Mr. Simmons watches. Mrs. Bryant watches as Ira Chaffin finishes another mas¬ terpiece. Mr. Figueroa lectures students in his Spanish I class. 16 :ulum I Metal shop teaches future blacksmiths of America the basics of the trade. Girls’ PE is very enjoyable. In addition to required subjects, students can choose from a vvidc variety of elective courses. Orange Glen offers elective courses in arts, English, languages, mathematics, music, sciences, and shops. If a student, as a sophomore or a junior, wishes to gain driving skill he can take driver education. For those students who wish to enter college. Orange Glen advisors can suggest the best courses to prepare them for their future education. In addi¬ tion, students who plan to take a job after grad¬ uating from high school may take courses in prep¬ aration for future employment. Orange Glen’s teaching staff and exceptional curriculum, along with eager students grasping for education, truly make for an excellent school. 17 CLASSES .-3 Dwight Adams Harold Aker Arthur Albanez Michael Alderman George Apalategui Yolanda Arcuri Larry Arena Kenneth Arp Bryce Bacher Richard Baker Dale Bakkela Judith Bakko 20 Maxine Barber Danny Lee Blake Larry Blacktooth ors Jo Anne Battle Richard Bell David Bores Jan Lee Beisner Charlotte Bogart Robert Bomhoeft Arthur Brady Mike Brown Betty Browning Charles Bryant Earl Callander Carolyn Causey Diane Christian Frances Conrad Ann Bulen Marco Campo Thomas Causey Louise Coda Richard Cosby Sharon Coffelt Sharon Crouch Gary Childs Kendyl Collier William Camming 22 Denis Dunn Dennis Ehlert Benita Esparza Robert Even Susan D ' Amelio Delores Davis Steve Dunn Robert Syer Nancy Elder Linda Ellison Gary Dexter Thomas Eaton Lawrence Evans 23 Robert Fink Antonia Fleck Stephen Fowler Don Freetly Robert Glenn Jim Goeppinger Dennis Green George Fisher Jack Ford David Fredenburgh Robert Gilchrist Dennis Greenlee 24 Ronald Grider Dennis Haight Deana Hampshire Linda Griffin Linford Hampton Carvllle Harrison Maureen Hogan Geraldine Hansen Adrienne Henry Janice Hoogervorst Janice Harris Marilee Harris Jean Hoyer Robert Hyde Maureen Hudson Dave Jago Tim Hudson Bill Huerta Jan Jensen David Johnson Edmund Johnson Kenneth Johnson Nancy Johnson Norman Johnston 26 Pamela Jones Richard Kane Anna Kennon Edward Kirkbride T homas Klema Cheryl Kluthe Tom Lachappa James Langley Roderick Lacy Jim Langston George Lafremoere John Larisch ) Virginia Kelly James Kinley Ronald Kurpuis Steve Lande John La Shell 27 r Glenda Lusardi Christine Manning Dwight Mansell Simon Martinez Edward Mazzetti Michael Me Phee Kathleen Me Bee Cheryl Me Quead Judy Me Donald Hetty Meyer Michael Me Kibbin 28 Margie Meyer Joe Modock James Morgan James Mulder Joe Napolitano Ruth Mullay Anthony Naves Robert Mullin William Newson Harry Moore Randy Moss Linda Murphy Bill Nicholas Peter Nicholas Gary Nichols Eunice Nielsen Ebb Nowry 29 Jan O ' Connor Ruth O ' Connor Donald Peet Gregory Penfold Renee Oddous Dave Perez Robert Oney Mike Peterson Ron Peskin Renee Pierce % Richard Plucker Rebecca Prater Diane Preiss Joan Ramsower Arthur Quigley Robert Rathje Brian Rehkopf Carol Reynolds William Rogers Linda Reid 4 Robert Sager Joe Robbins Joseph Renteria Lorn a Ronkin Martha Rogers Larry Revert Robert Rogers ' Carmen Santiago 3 ] Beverly Sargent Ted Skingle Barbara Scott Elaine Smith William Snapp Larry Snell Mary Settle Darlene Senter Jack Smith Randall Smith Randy Snyder Jerry Souther 32 Mary Stewart 4 Thomas Stroh Barbara Talbet Tom Tate Carol Taylor Terrie Taylor Susan Teets Joan Thomas Alan Thompson Marlene Thompson Karen Thweatt James Trimmer Eleanor Vallejo Mona Vieyra Stephen Vinson Clifford Vogt Diana Vosberg 33 ■ David Wilbert Tom Watson Robert Weir Holly Wicklund Ryan Wilson Susanne Woolsey Robert Zuber George Walter ALSO IN THE JUNIOR CLASS Linda Bauman Don Buntin John Cutler Mike Davis Pat Franks Kathy Garrow I Mike Louthain Tom Nihart Heather Roelle Barbara Scott Edward Stephens Jack Worster 34 CHARGE!
