President This year marks the beginning of the second ten years in the life of Orange Coast College. The 1959 Log pictures a community college as it faces the next decade of expansion and growth in a technological era. Many problems wilf be encountered as Orange Coast doubles its enroll- ment. Obstacles will have to be overcome as our program of instruc- tion is geared more and more to the technical demands of life. I am confident that our college is built on a firm foundation. We have an outstanding Board of Trustees, a competent Faculty dedicated to teaching, an enthusiastic Student Body, a meaningful program of education, the support of the public, and good facilities. With such assets we should be able to conquer the winds and the rains which beat against us and solve the problems which confront a growing college in a changing world. Basil H. Peterson PRESIDENT

The attraction of the unknown, is a thing of the spirit, restlessly probing nev frontiers. Dr. Norman Watson

The Board of Trustees of Orange Coast College has consistently worked through the years to build a strong program of instruction in technical and scientific fields. We feel that the equipment and buildings provided students in science, engineering and tech- nology are second to none. It is our hope that students will prepare themselves for contributing most toward making America strong. This can be achieved by taking advantage of the educational oppor- tunities afforded them in college. Robert Niblick President, Board of Trustees Orange Coast College
