There are conflicts out aheadg hand to hand combats with the tleshg wrestling of the Spirit against the Principalities and Powers and Spiritual Wickedness. Gird yourselves with the Truth, fastening the Breastplate ot Righteous- ness tightly over your hearts. Hold securely the Shield of Faith, lest some stray dart of Unbeliet destroy your Trust and Confidence. Cover your heads with the Helmet of Salvation, protecting your minds from thought of evil. Re- inforce your strength continually by fervent prayer, advancing upon your knees against the foe with the drawn Sword ot the Spirit, the Word of God. Keep your eyes lifted ever he-avenward, Looking tor that blessed hope, and glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour lesus Christ. ERXQQZ? We t Torch Bearersl The name bespealcs a challenge. There rests upon you the obligation of meeting its responsibili- ties. Iesus said, Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good Works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Your responsi- bility is fourfold. Let your light shine. The light is the important part of your ministry. lt is your consecrated service that men must see. Carry the light, Torch Bearersf' The transfiguration glory Was on the mountain top, but needy men were in the valleyg the light had to be carried to them. Carry it visibly: that others may see. Men do not light a candle and place it under a bushel but on a Candlestick. Carry it unselfishly that men might glorify your Father. The light must be seen, not the Torch Bearer. Be yours to hold it high. ! 4 0. B. I. Greetings, Torch Bearersf' The World is full of Burden-bearers, but it does not have many who will carry a lighted torch in the midst of dark- ness. Abraham was a torch bearer in a hostile land and they mocked him. Iohn the Baptist Was a torch bearer in an apostate age and they beheaded him. Iesus was a torch bearer and His own rejected I-lim. You may be rejected and made fun ot, but may your light never be extinguished. May you lighten dark corners of this World with the Message God has given to you. May you Worm cold hearts with the zeal oi youth, and may you penetrate the abysmal dark- ness of modern sin with the torch of truth which God has' given to you. Don't stop. Let your path be ever on-A Ward, Torch Bearers of l945. . mem- ' ' A light shining in a dark place. ll Pet. l:l9 There are many lights in this world, but only one true light, the love ot Iesus Christ. As insects are lured to their death by bright lights, so Satan has his lures: the dancing lights of amusement, the flame of ambition, the sparkle of society. These only plunge humanity into the darkness ot eternal night. . As Torch Bearers you have the privilege ot radiating the glorious Light that lights the path to the eternal day. Hold it high! Let it be seen! May the Torch Bearers of '45 be faithful unto the end of the race. Walk in wisdom towards those that are with- out, Redeeming the Time. Col. 4:5. Time is the sacred trust God has placed in our hands. Time is all too fleeting and life too short tor a child ot God to waste and squander in his own interests. ' The peril of the unsaved is so great, and the command of Christ so urgent that workers can never be idle. Make every moment of every day count for Christ. Throughout the ages you will reap the reward of His commendation, Well done, if one important rule oi your life has been- tor His sake to redeem the time. y For we are made partakers of Christ, it we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end. Hold your torches high, and be not ashamed of the gospel of Iesus Christ. No weoqpon that is formed against thee shall' prosper. Faithful is He that calleth you, who also will do it. God has prepared a place for each of you, and smiles upon each forward step. Occupy till He comes, in everything give thanks, and be confident that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose. Mr REV. FRANK W. Theirs was a strange preparation and equipment-but those who have faith in God can afford to use weak things. When God makes his choice of weapons for His children, they are often weak and base in the sight of the wisdom of this world, it is not the instrument but the power of the Arm that wields it that decides the victory. Gideon's army was provided with strange weapons of warfare indeed, but they had all that was needed. David had only a sling and five little stones, Moses but a rod, Shamgar only an oxgoad-strange equipment to fight battles for the Great God-but l-le supplied them with all that was necessary to triumph! Torch Bearers, as we go forth to battle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places, let us remember that we wage peculiar warfare with strange equipment also, the Shield of Faith and the Sword of the S,pirit-but in them God has given us all that is necessary to be a triumphant, victorious army of torchbearers! Certainly the secret of the success of Gideon's band lay not in the instruments they used-what then were the characteristics that led to their triumph? They were united. Each soldier sounded his trumpet as an individual testimony, the pitchers were broken-then came the united cry, and the great battle was quickly won. Secondly, Gideon's army was obedient. The scripture tells us they followed Gideon's example. The wise man is not he that saith the will of God but he that doeth it. We must be doers of the Word, followers of Christ's example, if we are to be triumphant in our battles. Lastly, the little band of three hundred were faithful- They stood every man in his place. No envying, no striving for the other fellow's position, no murmuring over the hum- bleness of the place filled by them-they simply stood faithfully each man in his place. Oh, Torch Bearers, don't ever forget that God has a place for each of you, and tho' it may sometimes seem a dark corner of obscurity-remember Torches are needed in dark places to speed the Light! T- WJ ' 'Nix REV, HARVEY C. KLAPSTEIN DIRECTOR fpfadac q sw u Since music is a universal language, it is a necessary part of the Gospel service. Sing- ing and instrumental numbers attract the in- terest and build a spiritual atmosphere for the presentation of the Word. Much stress is being given to music in the Open Bible Institute curriculum. This year a school chorus was organized and credit is being given for private vocal and instrumental lessons. Rev. Harvey Klapstein is director of the chorus and orchestra. Under his capable lead- ership these activities are proving to be an excellent source of training. The chorus pre- sented an Easter Cantata which Was a real inspiration to its listeners, The orchestra has grown this year for the students are being irn- pressed with the great value ot music in Gos- pel Work. Wise, Hessie May Vit borne with lhe Lord. 36 Since 1933, the year of the first O.B.I. graduating class, 278 students have said farewell to the school and have become engaged in all types of Gospel work. These alumni are scattered o'er all the world, teaching all nations. ..15lf23it.,. , fi 1555 ' ' 1 l l -aging? Several of the alumni have preceded us to our eternal Home in Heaven. Eight graduates have gone on to be with the Lord. The most recent one to meet her Saviour face to face was Ruby Pletcher, member of the Ambassadors' Class of 1936. Ruby was the wife of Gerald Pletcher, '35. Brother and Sister Pletcher have worked together in several pastorates, the most recent one being Gallup, New Mexico, where Brother Pletcher is still laboring for the Lord. Q .A Although the war has closed many of the doors to foreign countries, still we have alumni who are missionaries onthe field: Eddie Out- house in Columbia, S.A., Peter Kizner in Argen- tina, and our honorary member, Lucille Jenkins in Liberia, Africa. Brother and Sister Paul Hart- man are making arrangements to soon join the Outhouses in South America. After almost six years of service in India, Louise Gates is now home on her first furlough. ' 4: rv -in Home missions play a major role in our missionary program. Scattered throughout the United States-in the mountains, in orphanages, and among the Indians-are seventeen of our graduates. They are doing a splendid work carrying the Gospel to the out-of-the-way places. Q CONQUERORS, 1935 Armstrong, Iona-Des Moines, Iowa. O.B.I.A.A. Council. Brown, Chester-Des Moines, Iowa.
