SENIOR CLASS HISTORY By Bull Melton As we approach the end of our hugh school career and start lookung toward the future we wonder how we wull get along un the world of tomorrow Ours us a great responsubuluty The fate of a country may well be dependung on us ln the four years that wull soon be clumaxed we wull have ended one span of our luves a span fulled wuth wonderful memorues and dreams Before we move off unto the future we must furst look back at a part of thus span a part where we began to mold the shape of thungs to come lt all started durung the fall of l952 We found ourselves un a strange new world a world fulled wuth towerung upperclassmen who looked as af they would run over us uf we even breathed But our class outstandung characterustucs began to show even then for the lowly freshmen as we were called guuded by class presudent Myron Moore trampled all competttuon and by the years end we were named the outstandung class of l9S2 53 We were the furst class to be guuded by a new pruncupal Mr S M Boldung a person who was to walk by us for four years The school year came to a gloruous end wuth a class pucnuc at Lake Condy an event that was to clumax each of our years un hugh school Our molds began to take shape as we walked through the doors as sophomores an offucual part of senuor hugh school An able slate of class offucers Maxune Blackmon Bobby Struckland Lunda Dunnung and Charles Weussunger guuded us through thus year Thus was our furst year un ROTC and the boys felt quute proud of themselves as they donned the unuform for the furst tume Our class brought down more honors as John Ed Mathuson made the all state basketball team and Ed Crocker Larry Parker and Thomas Jennungs were Natuonal Bowlung champuons John Ed Matheson Bull Melton and Gary Henderson vouced our classs opunuons and d9SureS to the Student Councul Our classs beauty was also brought forth as Judy Brazell was elected Lee County Muss F H A The year l954 found many unusual thungs goung on over the world It was also un that year that we became uunuors The very word sounded luke musuc fallung on our ears as we occupued the seats un the muddle sectuon for the furst tume Jummy Funcher Charles Weussunger Patsy Morrus and Lunda Yutmeyer headed our fast movung class that year The Key Club played host to the state conventuon and Bull Melton and Roy Mums were elected state Key Club offucers Our class dustun guushed utself un the varuous clubs as Bobby Struckland Nancy Steele, Lunda Dunnung, and John Ed Mathuson served as club offucers Bull Todd Charles Weussunger Judy Ingram Shelby Dean Bull Melton and Bobby Struckland represented us on the Student Councul As the year flew by we entertauned the senuors at the annual Junuor Senuor Banquet and Ball It was also durung thus year that we sold magazunes and after much pushung from our uunuor sponsors we sold quute a few subscruptuons ln what seemed luke an eternuty we found ourselves nune months from graduatuon and occupyung the front seats of the audutoruum We had funally made It even uf ut had been a long hard pull The year s end would determune the funal shape of our molds and new destunues John Ed Mathuson Maxune Blackmon Patsy Morrus and Sandra Saxon have served as our semor class offucers Larkun Wade took over the reugn as Student Body presudent and Bobby Struckland took charge of the money as treasurer Our class was represented on the Student Councul by Jerry lngrum Maxune Blackmon Bull Melton Roy Mums and Shawneen Hardun Roy Mums was appounted Cadet Lt Col and headed the ROTC unut Shelby Dean and Lunda Yutmeyer served as edutors of THE BULLDOG and ZIG ZAG respectuvely Our class members held mauor of fuces un all the clubs as Judy Ingram Sandra Saxon John Ed Mathuson Huey Mann Janelle Mutchell and Jummy Funcher xezvgd assclug presudents Ducky Hull showed somethung of the class excellent musucal talent when he won a place on the l tate an Maxune Blackmon was chosen Good Cutuzenshup Gurl to receuve the DAR award Jerry lngrum and Bobby Struckland led the football team whuch puled up many vuctorues uncludung ones over prevuously undefeated Lee Hugh and over Tallassee un Tallassee a uob that had not been done un many a year The senuor cheerleaders were Melvun Allen Bull Melton Sandra Saxon Martha Jones and Judy Ingram Martha Spates reugned as Muss Homecomung and led the Homecomung fes tuvutues Our two bug dances the Mulutary Ball and the Junuor Senuor were led by Yvette Morgan and Lunda Yutmeyer Yvette also was elected Valentune Queen and led the Valentune Dance Toward the end of the year Twurp Week was held and ut turned out to be quute a gala affaur Senuors were honored on dress up day Our senuor play Henry s Hured Aunt , was produced through hard work and was well receuved by a large auduence Now as the curtaun slowly descends and as we have revuewed the past four years events we start to walk slowly unto the future For us ut wull begun a new lufe a lufe full of uncertauntues and doubts lt ns a lufe un whuch our success wull be determuned by how we meet our problems We have been told that we luve un the age of the atom because of the many possubulutues the atom offers whether for peace or war Now that our Iuves have been guven a durectuon we hope we can make thus age what ut should be l belueve that the outcome wull be good because of the way un whuch we have dealt wuth all our problems thus far We shall always remember Cluft Hugh as our home and above all as a place un whuch we receuved the attutudes and qualutues to make us struve forward l am sure that when the questuon us asked What has become of the Senuor Class of 19567 the answer can be, They are headung for the top' 1 - 1 1 - 1 . . 1 . . . 11 11 - - 1 1 1 . . , , .
