This statement, spoken by William Penn Adair Rogers, depicts the friendly personality of one of the most famous cowboy philosophers of all times. Throughout his lifetime. Will Rogers had a variety of occupations. He began life as a cowhand, and went on to become a stage and motion-picture star, an infamous roper, a talented writer, a circus star, and for a year. President Calvin Coolidge’s ’’ambassador of good will.” Although well remembered in these areas. Will was best noted for his homespun humor and his shrewd, timely comments on current events. His fatal plane crash on August 15. 1935. was a loss to the world. These senior favorite pictures were taken in the house where Will Rogers was born on November 4. 1879. HIGH SCHOOL BOARD OF EDUCATION President Howard Burdick The Oologah-Talala School Board consists of five people elected from five different wards. These members are elected for a five year term. Serving without pay, they attend a minimum of fourteen meetings per year as well as numerous school activities. The main function of the Board is to determine policies and make decisions necessary to implement an effective educational program. The Board member is truly a public servant serving in a position of great importance. School Board membership is one of the highest forms of confidence and honor which a community can bestow. We appreciate the time and effort put in by our individual Board members. Vice-President Joe Maltsberger Clerk Mike Ensley Member Jim Watson Member Joe Smith 30 ADMINISTRATORS Superintendent This has personally been an exciting and interesting school year, my first as Superintendent. I feel fortunate to be part of such a vibrant, active school system. The caliber of students at Oologah- Talala Schools makes education a truly rewarding and worthwhile experience. Thnak you to all who make our school a place where there is truly Excellence in Education”. It seems appropriate to borrow words from George Craig Stewart's writings where he said, “Strong men may not change circumstances, but they compel the circumstances to serve them. They may not control the wind, but they coerce the wind into filling the sails”. Oologah-Talala Schools provides the opportunity to be strong through knowledge. You than are the tool through which this strength can be applied. Take it from here liberally, use it wisely. Asst. Superintendent H.S. PRINCIPALS Oologah High School is a great place to work. The Student Body and Staff are dedicated to quality Educa- tion. We have been fortunate to be able to provide, for all students a program to prepare them for life. Any small part, I have been able to play in our educational system is a great reward to me. I will always remember Oologah High School as the finest school of my career. Attending Oologah High School is a unique exper- ience. Students can attend here in an atmosphere free from many of the problems that face so many young people. Qualified teachers who really care about the needs of students are in the majority. It is a fact that an extremely high percentage of our students are first class citizens who care about honesty and respect. Solving problems is usually a simple task. What makes the difference? It’s the quality of people associated with our school that makes it unique. Together we rise to the top and remain there. H.S. FACULTY Arts Crafts Susan Thomas Athletics. Soc. Even the parents can't hide their excitement! Pep Club 1986-87 members had many activities in which to participate this year. Throughout the year three poster contests were held by the pep club. F.F.A. won the fall sports banner contest. Carola Tucker won the winter sports poster contest and Bridy Dooling won the spring sports poster contest. Other activi- ties the pep club members helped with were basketball and wrestling homecoming decorations, and decorating lockers for sports without cheerleaders Culiminating all of the activities the members selected the two most spirited club members for the Mr Miss Spirit Award - Rita Burk- head and Wayne Gibson. CHORUS —J 135 Ooologah Elementary School would like to take this opportunity to say Thanks to all involved in making the 1986-87 school year very successful. Elementary Children are successful learners only when there is support for their education in all facets of their lives. We would especially like to express our apprecia- tion to those individuals that participated in the new- ly established group of school volunteers. The ef- forts of these people have greatly enhanced the educational system at the elementary level. The phrase “quality education has been and will continue to be. more than just empty rhetoric at Oologah Schools. Every person that is affili- ated with our school system has dedicated him- self to the proposition of quality education for our youngsters. I would like to thank the stu- dents. patrons, staff, community, and Board of Education for their continued dedication so that the term quality education does not signify meaningless jargon at Oologah schools.
