SENIOR CLASS HISTORY Four years ago. we. the Seniors of '49, were just a timid. uncertain bunch of self-conscious Hkidsl' as we enter- ed Oolitic High School on August 31, 1945. The principal, VV. G. Scales, welcomed us into the liigh school to start on our long' journey of success. We joined with the other students in the school and became full-pledged mem- ers of Ollt' large happy group. During the first llltllflfll of school we pondered over who should be the class offi- cers of this important class. Finally the decision was made, and the following students became officers: Bob Deckard. l,l'OSltl911fQ Jack Armstrong, Vice-President: and l1aVerne Cobb, Secretary-'l'reasurer. The sponsors were Mrs. Eva Howard and Mr. Arthur Vrider. Eleven members dropped out of our class to become members of the great working class of our country. VVe had the usual amount of parties Hllil fun during this record year. After we had finished our ha1'dest year of school, we became Sophomores with fifty-two SfllllQlliS reporting' for class. Mr. Kenneth Black was welcomed i11to our school as the new principal VVe had Mrs. Marie Chambers and Mr. Bill Luce as class sponsors. Our class officers were: VVard Bradford. l'resident: Bus Hutton. Vice- President: and -lack Armstrong, Secretary-Treasurer. Eleven seemed to he our unlucky number for we lost eleven 111ore members of our class during' this year. Now we come to the most enjoyable year of our school life, Our -lunior Year. NVe numbered forty-two mem- bers O11 this IIIOST memoriable year. -lnne Staf 0's, -lean Graves. and lVard lirafford dro 1 1ed out of our beloved 1 FZ' class later in the year. Mrs. Dorothy Duncan and Mrs. Gladys Patton were chosen as our class sponsors. During: the first semester, class rings were chosen and a lH?t0'FlZll1l' cam maiffn launched. Four of our class received certifi- P I P' I cates 1'eeog'nizi11g their unusual salesmanship. A successful Hlfun Festl' was sponsored bythe class as part of the Halloween Activities. XVe llflll charge of concessions at all ball games. A very nice class party was enjoyed by 14
