Year '33 Class History T was not until the task of compiling a history of Class '33 was fairly started that the writer fully comprehended the dilliculty of the assignmenti On looking back over the last four years. one is immediately conscious of the great metamorphosis which has taken place: a phenomenon which occur- annually but takes four years to complete: and that is the founding and building. from a cosmo- politan group of widely- dilfering individuals, an 1 harmonious and smooth- working unit. One real- izes the signihcance of the expression hyear spirit as one sees that same spirit appear and grow and , develop as the year grows and develops through the 2 freshman. sophomore. and junior stages to the com- plete product. the grad- 1 uating class. -4' 4. It is diliicult to write of these four years with- out becoming convention- ally eulogistic. We know that we put on the very best l'lallowe'en Dance: that our Conversat will go down in history as the most successful ever. and that we are. without any possible shadow of doubt. the very best year that has ever passed through the Ontario Agricultural College! Of course we are: but so have said every other year that has passed through the college, and so will every succeeding year. Maybe we are right. maybe we are wrong. but the result is the same - we are proud of ourselves as a year. and proud of what we have achieved in our sojourn at the college. Year '33 came into being in the fall of 1929. Johnston Hall. that last link with the past, was still standing in all its picturesque glory. Yvrecking operations commenced soon afterwards. and we were interested spectators of the demolition of all except the one wing in which we were pieced. How can we ever forget Grub Alley. Lower Hunt, and Upper Hunt? Why do we remeinher Maidens Lane? The whole wing was ours, a very palace Y or on the memorable occasion of March the seventeenth. an imprcgnable fortress to be held against all eomers. We have seen the passing ul. Johnston Hall and the coming of the new Administration huilding. and we cannot help but feel a pang of regret that we we shall not again he- hold those tiny. uncont- fortahle rooms. and never again shall we wash the assistant dean down the stairs from Upper Hunt to l,ower l'lunt with a hre- hose. We have reached the dignity of graduates of the Ontario Agricul- tural College and our - year will soon he split up again into its component parts, but not the same as when we started 4 for the year spirit still remains. and wherever we go we are still Class 33. Let us recall some of the numerous doings. athletic. social and otherwise. which have helped to brighten life. and to add zest to the weary round of lectures. meals. sleep and examinationsl The horse episode. to mention one! It has since been a matter of no little interest as to just what were the views of that noted equine authority. the ci-devant Dean of Grub Alley. on horses in general. and this one in particular when he opened the door of ltis room after removing the safe. and discovered his guest! incidentally. what did the horse have to say? And then there was the memorable raid on the Bakers, for which a goodly number of us spent three weeks repenting 4 ?l in close campus - that old and ancient custom still enforced at odd times across the campus.
