RIO GRI S QUR L COLLEGE TO YEAR 'TWENTY-NINE RADLTATION is an important mile post in the lives of young men and women. It inarlts the close of a period of special intensive study and training. It is the entrance to the larger field of activities where education. initiative and hard worlt will he appraised and re- wurded. The College has played a part in preparing the graduates for their chosen calling, The faculty members will watch with interest the progress of the individuals and will rejoice with them in their attain- ments and success. They will hope that each and t-very one will he rewarded with opportuniity, health. happiness and fair compensation. When the graduates leave the College campus for thc various fields of worlt, their support for college activities is not lost. The respect. appreciation and loyalty developed for members of the faculty, student organizations, athletics and the great work of the Alma Mater finds expression through a genuine active interest and liberal recognition and support. Evidence on this point is to he found in the many scholar- ships, lectureships, trophies, portraits. prizes and funds contributed, On behalf of the faculty, I extend to every member of the class congratulations and sincere wishes -that the future years will he kind and generous. RIO AGRIC LTUR L COLLEGE 19 29 PRQFESSOR A. LEITCI-l HUFESSOH Archibald Leitch joined the staff of this College in 15115. He was at that time manager of thc College farm, and attached to the ltepartment of Animal llusbandry. ln 1917 he was appointed Director ot' the Farm Management Surveys Branch, and in 15120 became Head of the newly organized Department of Agricultural Economics, which position he held until he re- signed in November. 1928. lle was thus a pioneer in Economic Research, as far as Canadian Agriculture is concerned. His ability in this regard is well known. During the last two years he undertook regular courses of instruction and these lectures were always appre- X ciated by students. His wide acquaintance with N agricultural conditions and his experience in bus- iness enabled him to apply what might otherwise have appeared to be abstractions, to the conditions of everyday life. Few members of the Faculty possess such a wide knowledge ofthe sciences and the arts. He was not a nanrow specialist, Liter- ature and history, as well as general science, had been added to economics. These interests combined to give him a many sided View of public problems and enabled hi1n to appre- ciate another persons point of view and to give due weight to it. His mind was free from bias. Apart from his professional capacity Professor Leitch possesses the ability to 'make friends, and what is even more important. to keep them. Of his interest in student activities, it is well known that he was keenly interested in athletics. He followed the football team through success and defeat, He is an authority on the rules of athletic contests. However, the development of a spirit of true sportsmanship was always uppermost in his mind. Now that it is past, we can say that on more than one occasion he coached both the affirmative and negative in debate without giving the slightest inkling of his dual interest to either side. 'llhe boys regret that Professor Leitch has returned to commercial life. for they have lost the guidance of one whose ability and other personal qualities have gained international recognition. l H: 'l'rn
