Ax V 'f 'Q ,f X fffffrj 1 ft QXX' BAND One of the largest organizations of our school dur- ing the past year has been the band. It is composed of 68 members, 5 drum majorettes, and the manager, Gene Wil- liams. Last year 12 beginners were added. The band played at the county and state music fos- tivals, P. T. A. meetings, the Lenawee County Fair, and gave concerts during the summer. Just before school be- gan the band took their annual trip. This year it was to Detroit. When they get to Detroit they visited the W.W.J. Radio studio and newsrooms and from there to the Detroit News building where many interesting points were viewed. From the News building, the band took the Bob-Lo Boat to the Island of Bob-Lo. The trip was enjoyed by all mem- bers of the band. After returning to Detroit, the band retired to its suites at the Fort Shelby Hotel to enjoy a restful night which was fully appreciated after the ex- citement of the day. On the return trip home, the band stopped at theZoo at Royal Oak and spent several hours viewing the sights and animals . This winter the Drum Majorettes twirled in theState Drum Major's Contest at Lansing. Marcella Onsted was a finalist in the Senior Class. Mary Reynolds placed high in the Junior Class and Mardell Burton was placed inthe Juvenile Class. This coming summer the concerts will be given in 7 consecutive weeks after which they will disband untilthe opening of school this fall. -Plans for the trip this next summer have not as yet been made.
