SENIOR cLAss HISTORY For youth to look ahead for years, N ' ah if v O cl qi! l ES-1 Q what a long stretch of time it seems: but now that it has passed we feel as though it has g ne all too quickly. In September, 1956, a new group of 28 students entered Onsted High School. Miss Hobart was chosen to lead us through the wilderness of our Freshmen year. The high-light of the year was the Freshmen Return Party for the Soph- omores. . Our class was put in the care of Mr. Andrews during our Sophomore year. One of our proudest privileges was to serve the upper-classmen at the annual Junior-Senior reception. bmes I2tthbnfiea Osigi? He ?531nmS?SeT5 number and with a lot more school spir- it. Mr. Vanderbrook had the responsi- bility of guiding us through our Junior year. In the spring, nHeart Troubleu, a highly amusing comedy was presented to an appreciative audience. We im- mediately set to work on our Junior- Senior banquet and J-Hop, as farewell gestures to our superiors. At last we were supreme rulers of the other classes. Mr. Huber was our sponsor. This year we presented uPeople Are Funnyn, which was well re- ceived. Our crowning achievement of the year was the publication of the HPurple and Goldn. A trip to Washington and New York brought to a close not only our Senior Norene Knapp 9 Je W year, but our whole high school course. a 0 4 0 4.b 7l0'4' iiigir NN il 'f,..,iff'3La.. 5 9 i SENICDRS Norman D. I arranged the evening before that my capable assistants Beulch Babcock and Ruby Werner sholld take charge of my beauty solon while I was goue. I left on due first train, taking with me a letter from a elsssnnte, which to my surprise contained clippings from news- papers. I learned that Kathryn Rey- nolds is teaching dancing in Paris. Alvin Kimball is doing a thriving under- taking business in Chicago, because of the small pox epidemic. Len Vallsd is quite as busy as Alvin as he is s doctor at the some place. Evelyn Pickford was proclaimed tennis champion at the 5Olym- pic games this year. Arriving in Hollywood I checked im- mediately at the famous Glsmous Hotel, book by Jane Dowling. The next morning I took s Werner cab to the Wilkins and Ross Studios, there I found Paul Holland directing a movie. It took the whole morning to settle my business there. Since I intended to shop that after noon I stepped into e lsrge restaurant. From the menu cerd I learned that Doris Large was the proprietor. After lunch- eon I went to the Kahle depertment store to purchase a cost. On the way back to the Hotel I met Helen Yenor. It in- cludes the study of native trees, wood identification, selection and care of tools, reading and drawing of plans, pre- paring and applying single finishes, and many other phrases of work. The practice and knowledge gained from Une complete satisfactory project make carpenters of the boys. We started the season with 50 girls en- rolled, but finished with 16 faid1ful girls. Our coach Eunice King, did a fine job of coaching, when it was most needed. We girls appreciated her kindness. Q We started our year of basketball by play- ing Clayton on their court. Everyone played well, and we won 15 to 8. Then Dec. 15 we tried to defeat St. Joseph but didn't quite succeed, however we only lost by 5 points. Jan. 9 Clayton came here and again they were defeated 14 to 9. Jan. 16 Deerfield really made us play to our best ability to take the game by 2 points. Feb. 9 we went to Sand Creek. That night everyone had the good old fighting spirit and we walked away with the ganr 22 to 9. Feb. 15, St. Joseph girls came back and we turned the tables on them., to de- feat them for the first thne in 5 years, which made all of us happy. Our last game was play- ed in Deerfield Feb. 25. Up to this tine we had only lost one game and were tied with the Deerfield girls for the trophy. We all played hard but were unable to defeat them on their court, so they won the trophy for 1959-40. I We enjoyed this year and are looking for- ward to next year. Although some of us wi .. be leaving, we wish the girls team of 1940 5: the best of luck Elizabeth A 1 ,, ,uk V-ir., 4.
